My mother was a Buddhist and raised me as a Buddhist but our temples were shut down during the Cultural Revolution so my Mom had to pray at home. I was so brain washed by the government schools so I criticized my mother for praying to buddha instead of Chairman Mao so she stopped.
All totalitarian regimes see religion as a threat to their power because they want you only believe in the State and be loyal to them. The statists who cheer for their governmental leaders are easy... to be governed and controlled. Today's china still has Communist Party's dictatorship and the government is cracking down home churches all of the country.
I am so proud of my home town Chengdu people who were so courageous to take their Gospel to the streets. Freedom of religion is just like freedom of speech, freedom of press, freedom of association and freedom of peaceful assembly are our natural rights as human beings. They cannot be taken away by any government entities or any collective groups of people.
