Happy new week to everybody...The Avifauna of Greece is extremely rich compared to the country’s size; more than 450 different bird species have been recorded in the country! We
selected the 5 most beautiful of them....A fine article by our collaborators Birding in Greece #birdwatching #birdphotography #ecomood #visitpeloponnese

On Saturday 13th September 1986, at 20:24 local time, an earthquake of 6,2 Richter magnitude scale and focal depth of 22 km struck the town of Kalamáta in the Messinia prefecture of southern Peloponnese, Greece.

The main shock’s epicentre was very near Kalamata. Damage was extensive in most parts of the town, as well as some nearby villages and 20 people lost their lives while 330 were injured (82 of which required hospitalization).

Kalamata, was at the time inhabited by aro...und 43,000 people and spread over an area of around 10 km2. The damage distribution was not uniform across the town, with severe damage concentrated in the central and northeastern parts of the city, coinciding with the historic town centre where old masonry buildings prevailed. Damage near the harbour and the coast was limited. This spatial variation in damage severity was attributed to soil conditions as well as source and directivity effects due to the causative fault’s proximity.

Six people lost their lives in the pancake-type collapse of a 5-story reinforced concrete apartment building. Sixteen people were rescued from the rubble of this building. Twelve more people died and several hundred were injured, in Kalamata, mostly due to falling debris. Casualties were reduced in the city because a large crowd of about 5,000 people was gathered in the open air on the waterfront for the inauguration of a new ferry liner connecting the region with the island of Crete.

Approximately 3150 buildings were destroyed and 10,000 people were rendered homeless. The cost of the earthquake was estimated at about 750 million US$.

Local Moods wants to pay tribute to the day that changed the destiny of the city and wish a R.I.P to the victims .

In this context, the emphasis shifts from the tangible to the intangible culture and the fundamental experience is an exchange of knowledge and expertise between the guest and the host. This exchange creates a more authentic and locally embedded form of cultural tourism...

Τι είναι ο Δημιουργικός Τουρισμός;
