Mystery solved...? For quite some time I have been wondering what type of insect is causing the bites on the Fig leaves and weather or not it was harmful or was it going to cause a disease. I am so glad that today all my questions on this subject were answered. Happy to say it should be harmless to the Fig plants ;) Work hard bees...

CUMBERLAND FIGS.

Cumberland Green
Cumberland Purple

...

Both being long season figs, they start ripening early July and extend their fruiting to all the way late December.
Both trees have the ability to hold on to the fruit until the fruit is dry. I have always appreciated that in some fig trees.
They are excellent flavored, very sweet, with somehow jammy pulp and very strong figgie aroma.
Enjoy the pictorial

What the Fig

This is a bit late but I keep de-leafing my baby trees so they can get one more Burst of Growth before final dormancy. It works every time.

It's end of October but after de-leafing my u. Pastiliere I discovered entire tree being covered with fruit. ...
Crazy...
I'm beyond impressed with this single variety.
This was today Oct 25the, 2017
Thank you and enjoy.

Strange fig Wasp behavior.

It's October 10 th and I am expecting to clear all remaining figs from baby trees so they can get final burst of growth before dormancy. And, I find this one fig variety called Vasilika Melissi which is attracting wasps. I thought it was very unusual so I took pictures and video clips to share with you all.
Please don't hesitate to give your input on this subject.
Thank you and enjoy.

Here's what I discovered today.

Small yet super sweet morsels that come different interior corporations Red or Gold. ...
Red ones drip Red honey
Gold ones drip Gold honey
Both very sweet, to the point you might start coughing and looking for water.
The tree has been in the property since early 80's and believed to have been a random seedling. Grown on it's own, it has reached height of 10 feet and width of 8-10 feet across, depending where you look at it from.

Mechanic's Capri

I stumbled into this beautiful Capri fig tree about month and a half ago. The fruit was nice big size and color was Bronze. It was an impressive looking tree with abundant of fruit.
Few days later I came back to it to get some information from owners.
To my surprise, they informed me that it had grown on it's own and now the business is going to move elsewhere because the the owner of property is demolishing it to build a shipping center. I immediately went to ask if I could start some Air-Layers on it to save the tree. They agreed and after 3 weeks I harvested the Air-Layers (3 baby trees).

The illusive "LUV"

80 year old tree is growing very strong and happy in good old Los Angeles.
According to current owners of the house, the tree was planted by the previous owner, who was a Professor of botanical science in university of Louisiana, who settled in Los Angeles area after retirment. A Frenchman who had special interest in preservation of heirloom variety of fruit and vegetables.
After extensive search for ID of this variety, several fig collectors came to co...nclusion that this is the once believed "lost variety" called LUV.
I'm very honored and excited to announce the re-discovery if LUV here in Los Angeles.

Everybody; say WELCOME to Fig LUV once again.

Verdugo Long Fig

This 20-year-old fig tree grows in one of the community gardens in Glendale. No one knows the origin or who planted it there.
I found it last year and had taken cuttings from it because the Main Crop looked really nice, was a large size fig with tear drop shape, dark purple skin, and red interior.
The reddish pink Ostiole is tightly closed and the 70-80 Gram fruit, although ripe, is pretty firm. ...
The cuttings rooted very fast and started to grow at a very good rate.
This year, a few days earlier, I decided to visit the tree as we (my kids and I) were in a nearby playground.
The tree, as expected, was growing very well but...she gave me the shock of my life when I saw the Brebas...
Here's why...LOL
