Egyptian diplomatic source: Egypt does not object statement proposed in Security Council regarding Turkey events, we only prosed minor amendment, and we are surprised to see Egypt accused of blocking statement
ـــــــــــ

In response to journalists' inquiries regarding reports by Reuters and AFP claiming that Egypt is blocking a Security Council press statement condemning the latest events in Turkey, an Egyptian diplomatic source stated that there is no truth to such media re...ports. The source explained that Egypt has no objection to the overall thrust, objective and main elements of the proposed statement, clarifying that Egypt had only proposed a minor amendment, and is surprised that the amendment has not been considered until now, and that instead Egypt was accused of blocking the statement.

Regarding the amendment proposed by Egypt, the diplomatic source explained that the draft press statement contains three main elements; The first being expression of deep concern regarding developments in Turkey, the second being condemnation of violence and instability in Turkey and stressing the need to end the crisis, and the third being to call on all parties to respect the democratically elected government in Turkey, exercise self-restraint, and refrain from violence.
The diplomatic source clarified that Egypt proposed an amendment replacing the wording "respect the democratically elected government in Turkey" to be replaced by "call on all parties to respect the diplomatic and constitutional principles and the rule of law, etc."

The source concluded his remarks by stating that it is very surprising to see attempts to accuse Egypt of blocking a statement containing all of these elements and meanings, when Egypt only proposed a simple amendment that does not affect the essence of the statement.
