USNS BOWDITCH TURNS 20. Our oceanographic and survey ship USNS Bowditch (T-AGS 62) was delivered to the Naval Oceanographic Office on July 19, 1996. Named for the American astronomer and navigator Nathaniel Bowditch, who published the first edition of his work, "The New American Practical Navigator," which is still used as reference for merchant marine navigation.
Bowditch is operated by MSC for NAVOCEANO with an all-civilian crew of civil service mariners and scientific support personnel.
