"Every one of my Olympic experiences has been special and historic. In 2004 at the Athens Olympics, my discipline, women's saber fencing, was set to make its debut, although I initially was on reserve as a replacement athlete. With a last-minute twist of fate I was able to compete in Athens and won my first Olympic gold medal — which was also the first fencing gold medal for the United States in 100 years. Four years later, on Day 1 of the Beijing Olympics I defended my title, and my teammates and I swept the podium. My result at the London Games was a disappointing fourth place but I had the honor and privilege of carrying the flag for Team USA in the Opening Ceremony. I am so thankful for all of the incredible memories and results I have made at each Olympics I have been to. I am looking forward to Rio because I know that it too will be special in its own way. Competing in four Olympics is a huge honor and I am looking forward to making my family, coach, team and country proud as I go for the gold this summer!" -@mariel.zagunis

Last full day in Rio de Janeiro and so grateful for such a wonderful Olympic experience! Thank you to the people and city of Rio for the hospitality, friendliness and for hosting a great Games! Now time to get ready for the Closing Ceremony and then head HOME after more than a month away 🇺🇸🙆🎉🎉
Whether you're ahead or behind in the bout, it's not over until it's over; whether the referee or crowd is for you or against you, you must persevere and keep your focus; whether you're fencing healthy or injured, you must put it all on the line (even if that means sacrificing your body with the occasional quad tear). Some things I am taking away from these Olympic Games...oh yeah and im also taking home a bronze medal Good thing I have plenty of time to rest and recover and of course enjoy Rio!
Had so much fun being back on the @todayshow this morning! Thank you @nbcolympics for having us and honored to be around so many other amazing Olympic medalists! #TeamUSA #Rio2016 #TodayShow #fencing #Olympics

After disappointing finishes in the individual event, #TeamUSA Womens Sabre was determined to not leave Rio empty handed. I'm so grateful we had another chance to compete in the team event. Yesterday was all about focus and positivity, and I'm so happy that we stepped up to the challenge and are bringing home a bronze medal! Very proud of our performance despite the odds being against us. Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout this long journey and especially to the fans in the stands who had our backs during the day's critical moments. Special shout out to our coaches and families, we couldn't have reached this moment without you. Wow- my fourth Olympic medal!! Hard to believe but so so so happy! Thank you everyone!!!

#FlashbackFriday: Roughly 4 years ago at the Opening Ceremony for the 2012 London Olympic Games I had the incredible honor and unforgettable opportunity to be selected as the flag bearer for Team USA. I was beaming with so much pride for my country at this moment, leading a team consisting of some of the best athletes in the world into the stadium. Tonight as we march, Michael Phelps will be the face of Team USA, representing all of our journeys and hardships that got us to this very moment. I 💙 Team USA!!!!
