The Massachusetts State Police are thrilled to welcome our newest addition to the marked fleet -- a 2006 Mustang, given the classic "bluebird" two-tone treatment. The car was used as an unmarked cruiser in its former life and was being stored at our Devens Fleet facility. Special thanks to our Fleet Section, led by Sergeant Karl Brenner, and garage foreman Steve Young for the great looking reclamation project! In its new life, the cruiser will be used for ceremonial purposes.

K9 Brix Locates Breaking and Entering Suspect on Mass Pike in Blandford

On Thursday August 18th around 9:00 p.m., an employee at the Blandford Service Plaza on the Mass Pike reported seeing several youths breaking into cars. The employee ran outside and was able to chase the suspects away. Troopers assigned to the Turnpike responded along with Tpr. Bill Lambirth from the K9 Unit. Tpr. Lambirth deployed K9 Brix from the point last scene and quickly acquired a track. Brix t...racked into the woods and out onto a service road. Brix tracked the entire length of the service road and over the Turnpike. Once over the Turnpike, Brix tracked down another street and through a yard where there was a large party going on. Several of the party goers spoke with the troopers and an individual was identified as just returning to the party a short time earlier. After questioning, troopers were able to determine that individual had several arrest warrants in the system. They were also able to determine he was responsible for the B&E’s. He was taken into custody without incident.

Moving into Boston for college?

The Department of Conservation and Recreation, MassDOT, and the Massachusetts State Police remind the public that many bridges and overpasses along the Charles River roads have height restrictions, most of them at or around 10 feet.

Motorists driving trucks, including box and rental trucks, are urged to check the height restrictions along their planned route and make route adjustments as necessary. Specifically, truck drivers on Storrow Drive, ...Soldiers Field Road, and Memorial Drive are urged to pay attention to all relevant signs regarding bridge height.

This precaution is especially relevant in Spring, when Boston’s many college students are moving out of their school-year living quarters, and in the Fall, when they move back in. We thank motorists in advance for their cooperation.

The State Police Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit is currently raising funds for a memorial to the dogs, past and present, who have been assigned to the unit. The dogs, who are specially trained to detect odors of ignitable liquids and explosive material, have always been valued members of the Massachusetts State Police family. Their work has helped, and continues to help, state troopers bring arsonists, bombers, and other violent criminals to justice. They are valuable contributors to our public safety mission. Members of the public who wish to contribute to the memorial may find more information in the attached flier. Thank you.

It was a summer day like so many others at the Higgins Memorial Pool in South Lawrence, across from a public housing development. A normal August afternoon in the working class neighborhood hard by the Shawsheen River and Route 495. Lots of kids, the children of the mid-1970s who grew up in the Stadium Housing Project, gathered to beat the heat in the public pool. A slice of blue-collar urban America in the year of the nation’s Bicentennial, candidate Jimmy Carter, Disco club...

Today, Trooper David Nims of the State Police K-9 Unit provided a K-9 demonstration at the Veterinary and Neurology Pain Management Center of New England on Route 1 in Walpole. Trooper Nims took some time out of his day to interview Lilibet, a purebred Mi-Ki, for possible future recruitment. She's a little small but clearly has a lot of heart!
