Wow what an amazing day watching the eclipse with Jon! It got really dark during totality, something we will never forget.
My friend Ian Shive will be on Creative Live this week!
A submarine launched Trident missile rises over Death Valley at Badwater, with the Milky Way in the background. Yes Badwater is flooded but not deep enough for a sub, the launch was from off the coast. It was quite a surprise to look up and see the sky lit like this!
It's been so busy here but I can finally announce that we have released Skyfire mobile as part of The Photographers Ephemeris app today!
Skyfires sunrise and sunset forecasts are fully integrated as a map overlay and they perfectly compliment the features already available in TPE. The subscription also now features favorite locations, push alerts, and forecasts out to 4 days.

This is a great read for all the photographers out there looking to reliably backup their work. I've been using Amazon Glacier to back up my stuff for about a year now and its easy and low cost for the peace of mind it provides.
You've taken a stunning image and now what? There's still that massive and confusing program called Photoshop to navigate in order to make your amazing photo sing. My friend Joshua Cripps Photography just launched a series of video tutorials and they are great.
I took one of Josh's post processing classes years ago when I was first starting out and it helped me immensely, he has a soft touch to editing that still allows the image to seem "real" while bringing out its full potential. Hiking through Anzo-Borrego came across a group of three Bighorn Sheep...and kicked myself for only having my wide angle lens with me. So as quickly as possible and ran the mile to the car and back returning with the longer glass. They were very well behaved sheep though and kindly stuck around and even posed nicely as a group!
