On Friday, I spoke briefly on the Senate floor about the school shooting in Florida and its impact on my own family. As a father and a State Senator, I am deeply frustrated by the lack of action to do anything to deal with militarized weapons. 32 pieces of gun safety legislation failed this year, including the ban on bump stock devices. These weapon do not belong on our streets. I pray we have the political will to finally have a meaningful discussion on this issue.

Senator McPike sponsors six high school students for several days in Richmond to learn about the legislative process by listening to committee debates, observing floor session, and meeting with top-level policy makers.

As a member of the Veterans Caucus, I introduced the budget language to advance the below initiative, supported by the Joint Leadership Council of Veterans Service Organizations.

"The JLC is additionally advocating for a veteran entrepreneurship microloan program to be administered by the Virginia Small Business Financing Authority.

This dedicated fund will allow the state to support Virginia veteran entrepreneurs who wish to start a business here, using microloans that will be given with competitive interest rates and repayment plans allowing veterans to grow the Virginia economy and diversify in ways that will help insulate the commonwealth against further rounds of sequestration."

“I’m still against anything that doesn’t provide transparency and rebates back to the customers,” said Sen. Jeremy McPike, D-29th District, in an interview. “If Dominion is making hundreds of millions of dollars more than they should, it should go back to customers, period.”

The fate of a legislative push by Del. Tim Hugo, R-40th District, to compel Dominion Energy to bury a planned power line through western Prince William County is now bound

#tbt to that time last week when the Senate passed by bill to require an AED at all gyms. During a cardiac arrest, every minute matters. For each minute defribulation is delayed, your survival rate decreases by 7-10%.
