As this week marked the 2 year anniversary of the attack at Stoneman Douglas, issues with school violence and my main area of research, emotional intelligence, have weighed heavily on me. I was reminded of a blogpost I published several years before Stoneman Douglas became a member of an unfortunate fraternity. Before the families endured the worst that humanity had to offer. I thought I would share this post from January of 2014. Before I became politically active or really ...even formed opinions on many of the political issues I now struggle with , question, recommit to, and questions again on a daily basis. Interestingly enough, when I write this post, I was still a teacher at MSD. Around the same time I posted this initially, I was also slated to present research about this very topic to the Broward Association for Black School Educators (BABSE), a local chapter of the National organization of the same name (NABSE). The bottom line is, Broward Schools knew this was an issue. They knew... and they did nothing.
