What’s the biggest obstacle to musical expression, especially improvisation? In my opinion, it’s the tendency to fall back on recycled "licks" instead of thinki...ng of phrases and melodies in your head, then playing what you imagine almost instantaneously. To do this effectively requires the intimate tactile and intuitive knowledge of where notes are on the instrument... some understanding of music theory... and a willingness to let go of habits in the service of being genuinely creative. It is a lifelong process.
Here is a #TBT from last summer...Hendrix with harmonica! Hard to believe he would've just turned 75.

Someone shared a Youtube of isolated tracks from Blues Traveler's song Hook.
As I listened to the track, I decided to record me playing along on my phone. I had no idea that the harp track was also a part of the isolated guitar track, and was surprised that I somehow managed to hit record and then stop exactly as the actual harmonica track came in!
