Oil, oil all around, but not a drop to drink:
(Skip to 7:15 for a naming and shaming, otherwise this is a tedious video!)
“Italy is also the world’s largest importer of olive oils,” Coldiretti declared, “that are often mixed with domestic ones to acquire, with the images on the label and under the cover of historical brands — even if transferred abroad — a semblance of Italian character to be exploited on domestic and foreign markets, a behavior that promotes fraud that must be fought with the strict application of law.”
Good news for the Greek olive oil industry! It is no surprise “that the olive oils produced in the region of Messinia have the same organoleptic and chemical characteristics as those produced in the area of Kalamata.”
Hopefully this development leads to a reduction of the practice of quality Greek olive oil being exported without identity, before being bottled and branded by other countries.
