Great place to take your horses and your lunch for a day trip or stay the night and camp! Excellent facilities, maintained very well! Hang on cause there are pigs beside the trails! Nature at its best!

We chose the Mineola Nature Preserve as our wedding venue and it couldn't have been more perfect! We chose to rent the Pavilion for the weekend so that we could set up the night before. The head of ma...intenance was super nice and came to check on us both during set up the night before and the day of the wedding. He made sure that he was available the entire weekend for anything that we needed. The facilities were fantastic. We chose to have the ceremony in the grass about 200 yards from the pavilion. The grass was well maintained and recently cut, they just redid the fencing around the Preserve , and the pavilion was absolutely beautiful. Everyone we spoke to at the City were all very helpful and nice. Mineola PD provided us with the after hours number to maintenance and their officers were great at coming to lock up after we were finished at the facility each night no matter how late it was. I would definitely recommend the Nature Preserve to anyone seeking for an affordable venue with the same qualities as the higher priced venues. See More

I went solo to clear my mind after losing my mom. Walked down to pond and sat on bench for almost two hours. The silence was golden.

A great place to commune with nature.Always a bunch of friendly, curious cows around.
Also a pretty great spot to watch the sun set in the woods in the distance.
For the fit and active there are many h...iking and biking trails.
A great place to chillax and get Zen.

This is what land looked like before we disturbed it. Great place to clear your mind and see Gods creation of habitat. Lots of food for thought

It's my favorite place. I'm a canoer and have used the Bigfoot Paddling trail many times. I could be a guide for the place. Like did you know that there's at least 3 generations of RR Trestles on t...he site. Did you know that past the slough you can find telegraph lines that once were strung tall until tha poles rotted and then rose again when the trees grew. Some poles remain. These are 100 year old telegraph lines from the days of yore. History! Who knows what messages passed through them? Who knows what steam locomotive carried who and where through these Piney Woods in day's long gone. See More

I live near Dallas and had never been to Mineola. It was well worth the drive, to bike through this beautiful nature preserve and the surrounding area. I can't wait to return.

I loved, loved, loved this place. Went there many times during our two month stay in Mineola TX. It was so pretty and clean. We loved taking our dog on walks there or just sitting in the shelter and s...wing on the swing and just relaxing with all the pretty views. See More

Wow! I'm tired! I wasn't prepared for how long these trails are! If our weren't so gorgeous out here, I wouldn't wore myself out trying to see it all. And guess what? I've been here several times and ...I have yet to see it all. Plan to spend a huge portion of your day just taking in the views. See More

I LOVE the riding trails here! My only problem is that my favorite trails (that are like being miles and miles from civilization, LOL!) are closest to the river, so I don't get to see them very often ...if there's been rain.
The trails are generally well marked and nicely wooded and there are even a few places you can stop and have a picnic table to eat at. I just wish I lived closer, so I could come more often.

Rosenwald Schools (1862 - 1932) was the product of the partnership between Booker T. Washington and Julius Rosenwald. It is recognized as one of the most import...ant partnerships in history to advance African-American education in the South. Booker T. Washington who was a well respected educator, himself born into slavery and Julius Rosenwald, grandson of Jewish immigrants who also knew the horrors of race predjudice, worked together. A total of 4977 schools were built. There were eight Rosenwald schools built in Wood County. Fauke, Hawkins, Lloyd, McMillan, Muddy Creek, Reinhardt, Webster, and Winnsboro. Out of these communities the Fouke Community School still stands and is a community center today. Two ladies both with ties to Mineola, Ms. Jewell McCalla and Ms. Withell Hall both attended these schools. To celebrate "Black History" month the Mineola Historical Museum and the Wood County Historical Commission are screening the documentary film "ROSENWALD".
