Minnesota Homeland Security and Emergency Management

Residents in several northern Minnesota counties received a wireless emergency alert (WEA) message this morning instructing them to evacuate.

This was a routin...e internal weekly test of the system and not intended to be delivered to the public. Authorities are investigating why the message was delivered outside the testing environment.

The message appears to have been sent to portions of Aitkin, Carlton, Cass, Pine and St. Louis counties. No emergency exists in these areas.
