Modern Love is the restaurant we have all been waiting for since Post Punk Kitchen started showing us all those many years ago how good vegan could be. Most of ...us cut our teeth on PPK, Isa does it or Veganomicon, and as usual this did not disappoint.

The decor was well thought out, perhaps a bit more modern mainstream than expected, but completely hip and keeping with current trends in an authentic way that means it won't become outdated and can easily reinvent.

The staff was like a smiling army of alternative women, no doubt a generation raised on The Isa empire, and as such, I felt right at home.

The menu was diverse and well curated, and completely demonstrated range and offered more tantalizing options than even a table of 4 could order in one go. So, we will return. Highlights as of now, include the Brussels whose edible flowers were a welcome surprise, the poutine which honestly should never be skipped, and the Hen of the Woods Picatta with a flawless flavor and texture execution (but could use a little playing color contrast light esp given the dimly kit and dark wood environs).

The dessert menu seemed a bit uninspired but had some classics to choose from, and frankly you'll be bursting out the seems and licking your plates clean anyway. Overall for a young restaurant from a beloved chef with all eyes on her, Modern Love more than exceeds expectations and will likely outlive us all. عرض المزيد

After fighting traffic coming from Midtown and almost giving up and just going home we made it to Modern Love. I'm so glad we did!! My wife and I shared the ...deviled potatoes which were very good. I had the seitan chops with applesauce and brussel sprouts which I thoroughly enjoyed. My wife had the butternut squash gnocchi in a creamy sauce...delish. Dessert we both had the brownie with ice cream and coconut whipped cream!! The only negative thing that I thought the glass of wine was a short pour but that did not take away from the great food and service. I'm definitely an omnivore, but have many friends that are vegan and vegetarian. I am so happy to have a place where I can take them to where the menu was so o...verwhelming with so many choices that they didn't know what to do with themselves. Isa was probably the first person to introduce me to really good vegan food! The food was amazing. The service was impeccable. I'll most definitely be back with more friends! عرض المزيد

Modern vegan chef Isa Chandra Moskowitz launched Modern Love in Brooklyn a little less than a month ago. The restaurant, like the giant 50 foot mural on the sid...e of its beautiful building in Williamsburg Brooklyn is an instant classic in the repertoire of New York City vegan cuisine and stands boldly next to Blossom in quality.

The decor was the new standard industrial beach based reclaimed wood Edison bulb infested urban fairytale that echoed cues from the ABC kitchen and other mainstream A-listers, complete with quirky wolf wall decals in the bathroom. The eye candy set the stage beautifully for the original vegan dishes that were to follow from Moskowitz.

Elle and I surveyed a wide spectrum of the menu ordering two appetizers--the poutine and the latkes. The latkes were a family born recipe that featured a fusion with Indian culture, a brilliant blend of samosa and lentil, perhaps the standout of the entire night. The poutine was solid and made you forget you were eating vegan food--but the gravy was a bit crude in its composition. The nutritional yeast, flour, brags mixture was a bit compartmentalized and lacked a subtle smooth mix however the appetizer remained a strong dish. The Caesar salad was a bold reinterpretation of the standard dish featuring charred romaine, a rock solid mysterious vegan translation of the Caesar dressing and original croutons. The salad had a modern deconstructed presentation that gave a fresh finish that unified the dish. The main courses--although they were our third and fourth choices on the menu as our first two favorites were sold out--a bug in the new restaurant that I must say was a let down--were not disappointing. The concisely titled "Mac and cash" came through to really show off this vegan restaurant and the cheese substitute was one of the most convincing I've ever had. The tofu, which was treated as a chicken nugget with a hard, deep fried exterior made of cornmeal was inventive and equally convincing. The mac portion was accented with "BBQ cauliflower"--savory "popcorn" sized bits that offset the mac. The second main course, the tempeh, reminded of Russian cuisine complete with sauerkraut, potatoes and in a broth. The tempeh was homemade and perfectly firm in texture. Another standout of the night was the carbonated chocolate cashew milk- unusually delicious.

Overall Modern Love shows promise to become a name that will top all of the vegan lists in NYC however at the onset of their recent opening they will need to run a few updates to make sure they don't sell out of main courses with their newborn popularity. عرض المزيد

I have wanted to go to Modern Love since it opened, but finally got to go for my birthday this past weekend. The food was incredible! I especially loved the sei...tan chops and applesauce. The staff provided excellent service and certainly made my birthday memorable - the best part was when Isa brought me a brownie sundae with a candle to wish me a happy birthday! My new favorite restaurant! We ordered the brussels & bacon, Samosa latkes, grilled caesar salad, mushroom blintz, and the zaatar pretzel to start. Everything ...was delicious but the brussels & bacon and the Samosa latkes were to die for! For entrees we did the Mac & Shews and the stuffed Poblano. I normally hate most vegan mac & cheese but this one was on point! We ended our meal with the super delicious chocolate cheesecake with coconut whip. Every dish had so many layers of flavor and was beautifully plated. The service was excellent and I loved the way the tables were spread out so you didn't feel like you were eating with the table next to you. Truly amazing food for people of all culinary persuasions!! We dived into the Mac & Shews, Seitan chops (all hail) and Surf & Turf with appropriate gusto. What... we were rewarded with was a truly scrumptious first class meal that kept us on a high all the way back to our farm in Australia. We've been huge fans of Isa's food for as long as we've been vegan, and we were excited to come to her new Williamsburg restaurant. We started with the truffled... poutine which was damn delicious, and I had the stuffed poblanos with street corn for my entree. Every bite amounted to the best tasting thing is ever had. The food was insanely delicious! If I had a hollow leg I would have ordered everything on the menu. The portioning is perfect on the side of generous. The servi...ce was great, efficient, and really friendly. The atmosphere is clean and modern, yet with dark colors and mellow lighting that makes it very cosy. Everything was outstanding! The poutine appetizer-delicious gravy and perfectly seasoned potato wedges. The mac and shews was super yummy. And the seitan chops-... seriously the best grilled seitan I've ever eaten. And I've been vegan for over 23 years, so I know my seitan! Cannot wait to go back. I had the best experience of my vegan life! Every single component of every dish was unbelievable. I knew the food would be amazing, but you never know true love until you have Isa's brussel sprouts with mushroom 'bacon' bits. This my new happy place.

Everything about the meal I had was off the charts ridiculously great. The mac & shews was so delicious that I had to really restrain myself to not lick the plate when I was done. ;) Can't wait to eat here again--this restaurant sets the bar high for incredible vegan food!

The Mexican dish was excellent. The seitan with mashed potatoes was good but could have been more flavorful. The portion sizes were nice. We left full. Friendly & helpful staff, great atmosphere and the most delicious food - I could have eaten my weight in mac and chews ;). Bring a hefty appetite so you can fit in a dessert too, it would be wrong not to :)

Had the delicious pretzels, shishito peppers, sangria, coconut cream pie, and the mac n shews. All amazing and a great deal. Love the restaurant decor and the staff were attentive and awesome! Can't wait to come back.

The food we ordered was very good. The reason I have it 3 stars is for the following reasons.

1. I have a soy allergy and the menu did not denote was was soy ...free. Also, I ordered the buttner squash gnocchi and was told when it was served it had soy in it. Odd because the menu ingredient list did not show this and the only reason I was told us because we asked if our appetizer had soy in it then our waitress was aware of my allergy. I think once they realized their mistake I was told all the dessert even the ice cream had soy in it except the apple pie. This was very disappointing because I was looking forward to eating here and had my order in mind prior to coming.

2. Our waitress wasn't very friendly

We shared the Mushroom Blintz, Blistered Shishitos, Tempeh Stuffed Avocado, Truffled Poutine, Brussels & Bacon, Samosa Spiced Latkes and Zaatar Pretzels as star...ters! Being with a bunch of Canadians, we particularly enjoyed the poutine, but were also delighted by the rest of the starters. I had a personal favorite : brussels and bacon. As for the entrees, I had the Mac & Shews which was awesome and tried some Stuffed poblanos (a must!). The staff is super friendly and we even got to chat a bit with Isa herself :) It's only 15 minutes from our place, so they will see our faces often for sure! عرض المزيد

I visited the Omaha location three times a year ago last week and week before on business trip! I have been counting the days until the Brooklyn location opened. Visited last night and was not disappointed. In fact, i was pleased and left smiling! Welcome to NYC!
