There is still time left to sign-up for the Mental Health First Aid Class offered by the county and The Center for Mental Health. The class is being held Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 20th and 21st from 8:30am - 12:30pm at the Montrose County Health and Human Services located at 1845 South Townsend in Montrose.
The Mental Health First Aid course teaches community members how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders in your ...community.
Mental illnesses are common, treatable health conditions that affect anyone, regardless of age, race, religion, or income. Mental Health First Aid introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs, and overviews appropriate supports. The eight hour class, taught by a Center of Mental Health staffer, uses role playing and simulations to demonstrate how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis. Participants will also learn how to connect people to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. For more information or to reserve your spot, please contact Danace Arthur, Montrose County Health Educator, at 970-252-5011 or email@example.com.
If you're a breastfeeding mom and have the flu, should you continue to breastfeed your infant? The answer is YES!
A mother’s breast milk contains antibodies and other immunological factors that can help protect her infant from flu and is the recommended source of nutrition for the infant, even while the mother is ill. If a mother is too sick to feed her infant at the breast and another healthy caregiver is caring for the infant, the breastfeeding mother should be encouraged... and supported to regularly express her milk so that the infant continues to receive her breast milk. Prior to expressing breast milk, mothers should wash their hands well with soap and water and, if using a pump, follow recommendations for proper cleaning. For more info, visit the CDC Website https://www.cdc.gov/breastfeeding/disease/influenza.htm or call #MontroseCounty Health Educator Danace Arthur at 970-252-5011. #fighttheflu
