Fates often intertwine and there’s really not much you can do about it—that’s why they call it fate. When I first encountered Mykayla and her family, I didn’t know how my life was going to be affected. I still don’t know, but it definitely has. You can read a little about how here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/145456994/It-Takes-a-Child-to-Raise-a-Village-Mykayla-s-Story Last year, with the help of the great Terry Gillespie, I wrote and performed a song for Mykayla, and donated all proceeds to the family. I also had a higher ambition with the song, a thank you, to the little girl who touched and stilled my heart at a time when it was beating in too many directions. My mind is usually filled with clutter but this time there was none. There never is when your aims are pure. Higher still was my hope that Mykayla’s Song would be a uniting and rallying catalyst within our community and a bridge towards the mainstream. The verdict is still out on those. Anyway, CHAMPS Canada has graciously offered NORML Canada a venue to host our first Annual Conference, May 23rd-25th, 2014. Unanimously, the Board decided that Mykayla was to be brought in as a special guest, both the tiniest and biggest ambassador for kids being helped with cannabis. But, it is expensive, and while SKUNK usually covers all costs, this time is different, as recent challenges and my own predilection/affliction for giving everything I have away, has put me in a position where I have to ask for help. So here I am. If you are one of our movement’s friendly companies and want to sponsor, please contact me at john@skunkmagazine.com or at 514-867-6694. No good deed will go unrewarded as I always use the magazine to showcase the good guys. For the rest, please download Mykayla’s Song on Itunes, it’s only a buck but together we can turn those bucks into a plane ticket or two. If you can’t help, that’s OK, but please share this post among those who you think might. Thank You, and don’t forget to join us in Toronto.
