I'm sure this may be a great story, NPR, but as a person with a disability myself, I'm unhappy with of the picture you chose. Did you consider this man's personal privacy when you decided to use the photo? Couldn't you used one that provided him a bit more respect and dignity and less 'shock value'? Thank you for letting me be heard.

I too, am a parent of a disabled child. He is 20 now and most people have no idea how taxing this is on a 24/7 caretaker. Sending my love and strength to this family!

This touches home for me. My sister is 33 years old and has several cerebral palsy and my parents took care of her everyday, lifting, feeding, changing her. They sacrificed so much in their life and it took a toll on them.

great story, I think this is a great series. However, with all due respect, I think your picture of this young man in the adult brief without his shirt is disrespectful of his dignity. you could have included many other photos or at least draped the brief with something.

Many people are focusing on the son's undergarment. When I saw the photo, my focus was on the father's face. He appears loving, gentle, and even perhaps happy. He and his wife love their son, and in the midst of their hardships and sacrifice, they also…
