Over the last few weeks, the North Shore area has seen an increase in auto thefts and burglaries. In all cases, the autos which were burglarized or stolen were unlocked or had their keys in the vehicle. As a friendly reminder from the Police Department, the most effective strategy to deter an auto burglary or theft is simply to remove your valuables from your car and lock your vehicle’s doors, even if it is stored in your garage. These simple steps alone can dramatically redu...ce the likelihood of becoming a victim. The 9:30 a.m. update on traffic conditions is posted below:

At this time, all lanes of traffic are open on Lake-Cook Road, Dundee Road and Lee Road. Any future notices will be issued through Northbrook Notify and the Village's website (www.northbrook.il.us).

Weekly News from the Village of Northbrook
- From Tuesday night into Wednesday afternoon, the Village received a total of 3.75 inches of rain. The periods of heavy rain caused street flooding within the Village with Public Works responding to 81 calls for street flooding. This also resulted in the Village and Cook County Highway Department temporarily closing Lake-Cook Road between Waukegan Road and Skokie Boulevard to through traffic. Additionally, a lane closure occurre...d in the curblane of westbound Dundee Road at Lee Road and a full closure occurred on Lee Road north of Dundee and south of the Edens Spur.
As of 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 14, Dundee Road has been completely reopened and Lake-Cook Road has at least two lanes open to all traffic in either direction between Waukegan and Skokie. Lee Road is also now completely reopen.
The Village will continue updating its website until all lanes and streets are opened. Please see the latest information at www.northbrook.il.us.
- On Thursday, July 6, the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD) detected West Nile Virus in a batch of mosquitoes collected in Northbrook earlier in the week. NSMAD recommends that residents take personal protection measures to minimize mosquito bites during this time including using insect repellent, wearing loose fitting clothing and avoiding peak mosquito feeding times during the hours around dawn and dusk.
- On Wednesday, July 12, the Village launched its new website at www.northbrook.il.us. The new, designed site features enhanced search, a new service request system and a number of new directories with updated information on topics such as local services and recycling opportunities.
- On Tuesday, July 18, the Plan Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. Visit http://www.northbrook.il.us/480/Agendas-Minutes to watch the Plan Commission meeting streamed live or tune-in to Cable Channel 17 (AT&T U-verse customers tune to channel 99 and search for Northbrook).
- On Thursday, July 20, the Stormwater Management Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. at the Public Works Center and the Environmental Quality Commission meets at 7:00 p.m. at Village Hall.

The 1 p.m. update on traffic conditions in Northbrook:

At this time, the Village and Cook County Highway Department have opened one lane to all traffic in either direction on Lake-Cook Road between Waukegan Road and Skokie Boulevard. Motorists should continue to expect delays until all lanes have been opened.

At this time, all lanes of traffic are open on Dundee Road.

An 11 a.m. update on traffic conditions in Northbrook:

At this time, the Village and Cook County Highway Department are reopening one westbound lane for all traffic between Skokie Boulevard and Waukegan Road. Local traffic only restrictions will remain at this time for eastbound Lake-Cook Road between Wauekgan Road and Skokie Boulevard.

The Village has also reopened the curblane on westbound Dundee Road at Lee Road. All Dundee Road lanes of traffic are now open in all directi...ons. Lee Road remains closed north of Dundee and south of the Edens Spur due to high water.

The 4:45 p.m. update regarding street and lane closures:

4:45 p.m. update: Lake-Cook Road between Skokie Boulevard and Waukegan Road remains open to local traffic only as well as anyone seeking to visit local businesses. All others should use an alternate route.

At this time, the Village of Northbrook has closed the curblane of westbound Dundee Road at the intersection of Dundee and Lee Road due to street flooding. This closure will only impact that immediate intersection an...d all traffic lanes will be open on either side of that intersection. Traffic delays are expected during this time. Motorists traveling in that immediate area are encouraged to use alternative routes until further notice.

Lee Road north of the Dundee Road and south of the Edens Spur is now closed due to high water. Emergency services crews have notified those in the Water’s Edge and Fair Acres Subdivisions and the surrounding area of the closure and have temporarily staged equipment to be able to respond to an emergency in that area if necessary.

3:00 p.m. update: Lake-Cook Road between Skokie Boulevard and Waukegan Road remains open to local traffic only as well as anyone seeking to visit local businesses. All others should use an alternate route.

At this time, the Village of Northbrook has closed the curblane of westbound Dundee Road at the intersection of Dundee and Lee Road due to street flooding. Le...e Road has also been reduced to one lane at Dundee Road to allow vehicles to safely access the neighborhood to the north. This closure will only impact that immediate intersection and all traffic lanes will be open on either side of that intersection. Traffic delays are expected during this time. - The July electronics recycling events will be held on Saturday, July 8 from 9 a.m. to noon and on Tuesday, July 11 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fleet Garage (1227 Cedar).
