Stretching out in Paryankasana (couch pose)...

This reclining backbends stretches the ankles, knees, quadriceps, abdominal organs and pelvic region, expands the chest and lungs, and stimulates the Thyroid and Parathyroid glands... great for athletes and runners, singers and everyone in between!! #yoga

After a busy week, all I want to do is lay back over a bolster in Supta Baddha Konasana (reclining bound angle pose) for a while to unwind, and allow my mind and nervous system to settle... #happyfriday

First become alone.
First start enjoying yourself.
First love yourself.
First become so authentically happy
that if nobody comes it doesn’t matter;...
you are full, overflowing.
If nobody knocks at your door
it is perfectly okay —
YOU are not missing.
You are not waiting for somebody to come
and knock at the door.
You are at home.
If somebody comes, good, beautiful.
If nobody comes,
that too is beautiful and good.
THEN move into relationship.
Now you move like a master,
not like a beggar.

It’s the ‘ah-ha’ moment when something (or everything) finally makes sense, or that peaceful moment when nothing else matters... and the joy and freedom you feel when when you realise things (in your body or mind, or both) have opened up and changed!

Shifting my perspective and balancing in Sirsasana (headstand) at the end of the cantilever at Otway Fly Tree Top Walk!

Chatush Padasana, a variation of bridge pose is a yoga chameleon - both a restorative inversion as well as an energising backbend!

This pose calms the brain, to help reduce anxiety and stress. It also stretches the neck and spine, opens the chest, stimulates the abdominal organs, lungs, and thyroid to leave you feeling refreshed too... #iyengaryoga

Working on grounding my heels and back foot in standing poses like Ardho Mukha Svanasana, Parsvottanasana, Virabhadrasana 1, Utkatasana and Parvritta Trikonasana.

It’s easy to skim the surface and feel uplifted with light, high yoga poses especially when you are strong and flexible, but to practice yoga is to be present in the reality of each moment. How can we do that if we are always ready to fly away? #iyengaryoga

Preparation for Paschimottanasa (seated forward bend):

Start in Dandasana (staff pose - pic 1) with the legs straight and grounded, place the fingertips on the floor beside the hips, and lift and lengthen the front, back and side body equally.

Remain here for a few breathes then extend the arms up beside the ears for Urdvha Hastasansa in Dandasana (pic 2).

...

Stay here for a few more breathes before bending forward at the hips and reaching forward towards the toes.

Tip: sit on a blanket or two if your hamstrings are tight! #iyengaryoga
