Congratulations guys on harvesting some big ol’ Oakview toms! Luke’s tom decided to take one last bath in a small pond close to the blind after being shot. Luckily Shawn was able to fish him out with a long stick. Thanks again to Shawn for getting all four of these guys on toms! #finallyfeelslikespring
After the storm finally broke we were able to get back into the woods to see what the turkeys are up too. It feels more like waterfowl season than turkey season. Hopefully the warmer weather this week will melt this snow. Looks like most of the birds are still flocked up but we expect to see them breaking up more as the weather warms up.
Scout and Lucy found their first sheds and one dead head at the ranch this past weekend. With their help we got all the turkey plots planted and still had time to scout out some turkey roost. It looks like the deer herds and turkey flocks made it through winter in good shape. It should be another great Spring of turkey and shed hunting! Good luck and be safe in the woods!
Friends it is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of my dad Franklin. He was a kind soul who loved his family, friends and the outdoors. His visitation will be Sunday January 14 from 4-7 pm at the Methodist Church in Verdigre. The funeral service will be Monday January 15 at 10:30 am also at the Methodist Church.
The "tree coy" is the final touch for one of our new blinds. This blind is one a one acre foodplot that lacks any natural trees to use for scrapes. So we took a play from the Drury brothers playbook and made our own scrape tree. We will keep you posted on how well this works out. Has anyone tried their own scrape tree? Good luck and be safe!
My favorite hunting buddy (Lucy) and I are spending some quality time in the blind waiting on a big fat doe to walk by our blind. We've been having a blast thinning out some does and filling some freezers with our friends at the ranch. It's a great time to get out in the woods! We are already seeing scrapes and rubs with new ones popping up ever day. It looks like we are going to have some really great prerut activity in a couple more weeks. Good luck everyone and be safe.
Thought everyone might enjoy some fur trapping pictures. As many of you know, we have an aggressive predator control plan. Our friend Mike runs his trap lines on our ranches and a couple of other properties. This was one winters fur harvest! He took these pictures at our east ranch. We are currently salvaging this old barns wood to be used in the lodge.
Lucy's first turkey hunt was a success! After several years of asking for a crossbow we finally decided she was old enough to start hunting biggame. On her very first turkey hunt she tagged this big ol tom! Needless to say but she was one excited 8 year old!
After lots of practice with her new crossbow Lucy made a perfect shot! This hunt was made extra special by having all three of us together to share the moment! We were so proud of keeping her composure while this big tom and his buddy slowly worked their way to our decoys! #prouddadandmom#uhlirhuntinggirl
