    •  There is an event and rally for legalization coming up. We want to encourage you to attend, but there is a twist. We want you to go and talk about exempting, DE-scheduling, repealing and nullifying cannabis prohibition when you talk to your representative. Let them know you feel this is an unconstitutional act, that you feel this is a right not delegated to their regulations and control, but a right of nature, the law and the constitution. let them know you want the state nullification process to begin and for our natural, lawful and unalienable rights to cannabis be completely restored. Let them know you want the people released from our prison system and their records expunged and destroyed. That what goes on between your Doctor and yourself is none of the States business, nor is it their profession to decide anything in terms of the medical use of cannabis. In any case please consider using words like, lawful, repeal, nullify, exempt etc... Please avoid wording like legal, legalize, control, regulate etc.. Dont cause trouble with the legalization crowd, just speak to your reps about it in a way they get the message you want this repealed and nullified ASAP. We would also encourage you not to say anything about SB2116 unless you are absolutely sure you support it, or absolutely sure you don't. READ IT FIRST PLEASE! https://www.facebook.com/events/279571548866455/

  8. My letter to Senator Barrington after my visit on Monday: February 10, 2014

    Dear Senator Barrington:

Thank you so much for taking your time to visit with me today. Your eyes told me you are a compassionate man and I appreciate the kind things you said to me.
May I summarize: I have innumerable lungs tumors that have rendered me disabled. I can’t walk without the feeling of being suffocated.... Traditional medicine, as told to me by many physicians, holds no treatment or cure. As I age the prognosis is not bright but I have one alternative therapy that gives me hope and that is cannabis oil. This oil has been known to shrink tumors. It may not be a treatment that works for me but I believe I should have the legal right to try without fear of violating Oklahoma state law. It has been suggested that I try pharmaceutical synthetic marijuana (Marinol) but this drug is not known to reduce tumors. It has a history associated with a lot of negative side effects, so this is not an option for me.
I can appreciate the fact that many people have a different view than I. I can appreciate the gateway drug argument; however, there is a matter of freedom and liberty involved. Some could argue that a glass of wine or a Budweiser could lead to alcoholism, a burrito or taco could lead to obesity, a chocolate could lead to diabetes. We wouldn’t think about making wine, a taco or chocolate illegal. We have to allow people free will or we become a state of Fascism. Mayor Bloomberg has ruled that drinking a 32oz of cola in New York is against the law. This is a dangerous trend.
Marijuana has proven medicinal properties. The fact that I don’t know any Oklahoma physicians willing to go on the record about the upside of marijuana does not mean it isn’t a beneficial treatment. Many physicians are afraid of the negative repercussions and many more I suspect have been trained by the AMA that is influenced greatly by the pharmaceutical industry. I doubt any of them have had an opportunity to openly investigate the medicinal aspects. I lost a son-in-law due to (legal) Cymbalta and Abilify following doctor’s orders. Many of these drugs are not what they are cracked up to be and many are far more dangerous than marijuana. Think about all the FDA approved drugs that have been recalled. So, the bar is very twisted and I suspect that if you follow the money you will see the real reason why marijuana has been vilified. The fact that Oklahoma has one of the highest incarceration rates in the world should be troubling. Many are in prison for non-violent crimes. I suspect there are deep pockets that benefit from current policy such as private prison construction and so forth.
There are usually two sides to a story. Don’t you believe it is only fair to have both sides be heard on this issue?
    Kindest regards,
    Toni Samanie

  10. In November I went to a hearing on CBD's (one of the active elements of cannabis). There were children there with Dravet's syndrome. Three from Oklahoma and a few from Colorado. The children from Oklahoma were bound to wheelchairs and under heavy medication that made them almost comatose. The children from Colorado were happy and playing. The only difference? The laws of the state they lived in. The children from Colorado were allowed to take Cannabis oil, the children from Oklahoma were not. I was sad to hear today that since November two of those children from Oklahoma have passed away. The responsibility for their deaths is on our lawmakers.

  13. Friends and Members,

Saturday, Jan. 11, 2pm - 4pm, the Drug Policy Reform Network will be meeting at the Gypsy Coffee House, 303 N. MLK Jr. Blvd. (303 N. Cincinnati Ave.), Tulsa, OK.

Everyone is invited to help us plan drug policy activi...sm for 2014.

You don't have to be a member to help, but a $10/year membership is required to vote (see form below this message).

We will also be electing our new board members for 2014.

2014 is undeniably a turning point in the War on Drugs.

The marijuana reform victories around the country are validation of our progress.

Today all people twenty one years or older can use marijuana in Colorado! That even goes for visitors!

In 2012, Arkansas only missed becoming the first southern medical marijuana state by 2%. They are already organizing to vote again this coming November.

Recently, Illinois became the 20th medical marijuana state. A large portion of Illinois population is similar to Oklahoma's.

In contrast, the Oklahoma government has passed even harsher penalties. Regardless, the changes in other states are increasing support here.

This year, a Sooner Poll found over 70% of Oklahomans support medical marijuana and over 50% support total legalization.

We are the same as the rest of the country. If we work together the laws will change here too.

Drop by the Gypsy Coffee House Sat., Jan. 11, 2pm and let's come up with a plan to make it happen.

Our group does not have much money. Everyone is responsible for the cost of their own food and drinks.

All contributions and membership fees go to the expenses of drug policy reform (i.e. newsletter printing/mailing, event promotion, meeting room rentals, exhibit booth rentals, ballot initiative contributions, etc.)

Participation and volunteerism in our activities is the most important contribution of all. We encourage non member supporters to be involved with our projects too. We need your help!

Call 405-762-0882 or email howzkeepa@yahoo.com for more details.

  14. On Nov. 2 2013, the medical marijuana seminar hosted by State Senator Constance Johnson and the Real of Caring was an amazing and historical event for the Oklahoma medical marijuana movement. Details of it can be found at the top of the middle column at http://okmedicalmarijuana.org/
  15. Oklahoma Marijuana Deadline Now!

Call House Leaders today to support HB1835!
Representative Cory Williams (Stillwater) has introduced a very important bill.

HB1835 will make second time marijuana possession a misdemeanor!...

To view the actual wording (text) of the bill go to this link http://webserver1.lsb.state.ok.us/cf_pdf/2013-14%20int/HB/HB1835%20int.pdf

This would be a huge step for marijuana reform in Oklahoma. The current felony for second time
marijuana possession is the main Oklahoma policy causing fines and jail time for marijuana use.

HB1835 passed in the House Public Safety Committee 14-0! In other words, members of all parties supported it!

Now, we must call certain House Leaders and show support for the bill to be heard in front of the full House Membership.

We must do this immediately! The House Leader, T.W. Shannon is already trying to stop HB1835! We must call immediately!

Simply call the following members of the House right now and ask them to support HB1835:

Speaker of the House, T.W. Shannon (405) 557-7374
Majority Floor Leader, Pam Peterson (405) 557-7341
Majority Leader, Dennis Johnson (405) 557-7327

Do not hesitate! This is our chance to make real progress!

  16. Med. Marijuana Supporters,

Senator Constance Johnson's medical marijuana bill (SB710) is scheduled for a hearing at the State Capitol today (Monday, Feb. 25; room 419c)!

A hearing is the next step in the process of passing a law. Receiv...ing a hearing is a slight improvement from previous years, but we have to make more phone calls today for it to go further.

We must convince a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives to cosponsor. We need your help doing this today!

I have pasted a message below from Norma Sapp, Director, OK NORML, with more important information about what you can do to help now!

If you live in the Stillwater area, Rep. Cory Williams has indicated interest in cosponsoring Senator Johnson's medical marijuana bill (SB710).
Stillwater area residents must call Rep. Williams office today and ask him to cosponsor (SB710).

    Rep. Cory T. Williams
    Phone: (405) 557-7411

To find out who your state senator and representative are, call your local "Board of Election/Election Board", or the State Election Board (405) 521-2391.

You can also go to the Oklahoma Legislature website (http://oklegislature.gov/) and use the "Find Your Legislator" service at the bottom right of the homepage.

It is important to include the following information when contacting your representative and senator:

1.) If calling, politely ask for the legislator and ask to leave a message if he/she is not available (almost always).
2.) Ask the person's name that you are leaving a message with. Repeat their name to indicate that you might be
writing it down. This encourages them to actually deliver your message.
3.) Give your name and address listed on your voter registration. Make it clear that you are an active voter.
4.) Ask them to deliver your message to the senator or representative.
5.) Ask them to repeat your message (read it back).
6.) Ask them: "If the legislator is too busy, will you please contact me with his/her response?"
7.) Using their name, thank them.
    8.) Hang Up!

    Peace 2 ya,
    Jeff Pickens
    President
    DPRNOK/OK CCC

P.S. Thank you for your help and please call your representative as soon as you read this message.

    Norma's Message:

    All,

I have been back and forth and back and forth on this since last night, but I have made my final decision. I will not be able to go to the Capital this morning. Even though it looks as if travel would be alright this morning, I most likely would not be able to make it back home this afternoon after the committee meeting. I live too far from the Capital.

So, what we can do today is light up the phones. We need a House Co-Sponsor! Go to http://www.oklegislature.gov/ find the "Find Your Legislator" button. Click on that and put in your address. The list that comes up will start with your Congress people. Scroll down to the last two on the list. That is your State House and Senate members. Write down their names and phone numbers. Call both but the most important is the House. Ask them to be the House co-sponsor on SB710. Which of course is the bill that Senator Constance Johnson has introduced for Medical Marijuana. We could use more Senate Co-sponsors too but the House is the MOST important for now.

Also, here is a list of the Health and Human Services committee members: Call all of these members and ask them to please pass SB 710 out of committee. If one of this list is your Senator, then you are one of the most important people in the state! Your phone calls are VERY important!
