I still think this is one of the first pieces of gear to buy and learn how to use when you finish your Open Water Diver Certification....the finger reel. I can't begin to tell you how much lost student gear this has found. Today while helping Boise Scuba Center with cert dives in Wendover, one of the students lost my fellow instructor's personal (and sentimental) compass. I went out on a recon for it , used the finger reel in mucky moon dust at 55', and using a basic search pattern found it under 6-8 inches of slime.
Exciting news coming next week! Brooks Elizabeth Avery Shepp and I met with Emergenetics today to bring on a tool that will help our vets! This is an amazing psychology tool I've been using since 2012 and it will be a huge win for both teams....we use the tool to better understand thinking and behavior preferences and in turn sharing results and other data with Geil and her team! Super excited!
Thank you Charlie for letting us run game night for Boise Scuba Center ...we had a blast!
We feel this is a great activity for shops needing activities in the winter for local divers.
I will be speaking on making diving more interesting and accessible throughout the year at the Scuba and H2O Adventures Show in Tacoma...
A technique I have been using lately with some of our divers with anxiety or depression is called 54321.... and it looks like this. Try it even if you are not diving--its a standard relaxation technique we adapted into the aquatic environment...
Think about :
5 things you can see
4 things you can hear
3 things you can touch ...
2 things you can smell (underwater- a bit difficult but when the answer is nothing- I ask once on the surface)
1 slow, deep breath.

Our returning divers have between 15-100 hours of confined water play time. This improves skills, relieves stress, and builds confidence. Rob Anderson will be speaking at the Scuba & H2O Adventures Show in Tacoma and sharing how he supports his local dive shop with GAME NIGHTS during the off-season.
He will also speak to making diving a local adventure wit...h themed dives and how he has built a dive community out of people who had never really thought about diving as a recreational activity done in the local Treasure Valley. In addition, Rob will do additional presentations on PTSD and Diving, and Underwater Metal Detecting
