Conflicting reports have recently claimed that Saudi Arabia called upon Iraq to mediate between itself and Iran. The Saudi News Agency, however, cited a source a few days after this news emerged who vehemently denied its veracity, but it’s important to nonetheless examine why this scenario is not only believable, but would also be very wise if it turns out to be true sometime in the future. Iran and Saudi Arabia must find a temporary compromise in their Mideast-wide rivalry and cooperate in keeping Iraq together as the most visibly tangible sign of any forthcoming détente.

The media in Europe rarely mention the increasing outbreaks of dangerous diseases in Ukraine. No one has mentioned it except for UNICEF’s representative in Ukraine, Giovanna Barberis, and a few Ukrainian TV stations. But meanwhile, the problem in that country has reached catastrophic proportions. In the town of Izmail (the Odessa region) in the summer of 2016 an outbreak of a mysterious intestinal infection… [ 1,344 more word ]

Although outbreaks of dangerous infections are usually detected in Africa and South Asia, the US military is showing increased interest in countries that are at a relatively low risk for epidemics, but which are located near the borders of America’s biggest geopolitical rivals - Russia and China.

While the United States remains embroiled in a controversy relating to the presence of statues paying tribute to leaders of the former Confederate States of America, the Ukrainian regime has engaged in and approved of the destruction of numerous statues, busts and monuments to the Bolshevik leader V.I. Lenin. According to TASS, 2,389 Lenin statues and monuments have been destroyed on territory controlled by the Kiev regime. [ 1,103 more word ]

Lenin is a convenient target for a Kiev regime whose ideology is neo-fascist, but the fact that Lenin was in many ways the inventor of modern Ukraine, is an inconvenient fact that is being totally ignored.

The Gallup polling agency released its latest data concerning how over 30 different countries view Russia and President Putin, and contained within this information is the curiously emerging trend of how Philippine society is drawing closer to Russia at the same time as the Indian one is moving away from it. The state-to-state relationship between Russia and India remains enduringly strong, yet its population no longer appears to embrace the Soviet-era slogan of “Rusi-Hindi Bhai Bhai” (“Russians and Indians are brothers”). So long as the Indian government maintains its inflexible “zero-sum” mentality towards any of its partners’ relations with Pakistan, however, its people will probably continue breaking with tradition and increasingly come to view Russia and its leadership through a negative pro-Western Mainstream Me...

For years, the US has positioned its military on key spots along China’s One Belt-One Road (aka New Silk Road). Furthermore, the recent inflaming of the protracted disputes between Washington and Pyongyang along with American provocations against China in the South China Sea, all add up to American power trying to fully encircle not only mainland China, but China’s international trade/commerce Road. The US seems to be positioning itself as an adversary in a trade war with China, something as unwinnable as North Korea engaging in a nuclear war with the United States.

While the international media remains concerned to the point of being fixated on the US-DPRK (North Korea) stand-off, in terms of sheer firepower, the much more pressing stand-off between China and India holds the potential to be far more destructive. Indian Nuclear Weapons While the best intelligence about North Korea’s weapons delivery capabilities indicates that North Korea is in possession of intermediate range ballistic missile systems which are incapable of hitting the US mainland, India’s intermediate range systems are not only more advanced but due to India’s proximity with China, these missiles could easily strike targets within China. America has demonstrated under its weak Presidency that N. Korea with the backing of China is a stronger nation. Trump and Kim Jong-Un had a few nasty barking sessions and that is about it. N. Korea’s nuclear program is defensive only and doubtlessly the US will now not venture into China or Asia’s backyard. The Chinese message should sink in well if Vietnam is still in American memory. A lot of people in the Alternative Media community were taken aback by Russia and China’s decision to go along with the US-led UNSC sanctions on North Korea, especially considering that it was undertaken in the context of the US recently passing more anti-Russian sanctions and even threatening to sanction China too, which has created the perception that both countries “sold out” to the US. In legendary Gogol’s novel “Dead Souls”, a swindler buys on paper slaves who died after the latest census (therefore officially alive) in order to use them as a collateral to take a loan he has no intention of paying back. As we’ll see, Groisman’s government of Ukraine wrote a new version of the novel, this time taking down a whole country in their insane plan. [ 1,568 more word ]

Saudi Arabia threateningly accused Qatar of “declaring war” on the Kingdom for supposedly calling for the Holy Mosques in Mecca and Medina to be placed under international control. Qatar denies that it ever issued such a statement, but that didn’t prevent the Saudis from reacting in a very harsh way by framing the idea as a declaration of war. This latest episode is emblematic of the still-simmering tensions between the two sides since they experienced their public falling out earlier this summer, but it also deserves to be analyzed in another respect concerning Saudi Arabia’s reaction to Qatar’s supposed statement. There is a long history of Russia being kicked around as political football in the United States. The circumstances leading to the latest Russia sanctions bill passed by the US Congress has striking similarity with the so-called Jackson-Vanik Amendment of 1974, which put road blocks on the policy of détente toward the Soviet Union initiated by President Richard Nixon and his secretary of state Henry Kissinger in the late sixties. The Polish Sejm, which is the name of the country’s parliament, approved a radical law against so-called “de-communization” decreeing that all monuments that fall under its domain could be removed to obscure statue parks or potentially destroyed. This is controversial for many reasons, but mostly in this context because it could affect statues that are dedicated to the Soviet-era heroes and their Polish allies who liberated the country from Nazi occupation. it should be known that Russia believes that Poland’s actions violate two bilateral agreements from 1992 and 1994 dealing with the preservation of monuments in each other’s countries, and Moscow justifies any of its potential asymmetrical responses based on these grounds.

A well-known saying is "Give a man a gun and he'll rob a bank. Give a man a bank and he'll rob the world". It is possible to argue that having observed the run up to America and allies' invasion of Iraq in 2003 this saying can be adjusted to: "Give a man a media agency and he'll not only rob the world, but he'll also affirm that it is flat". The expert contribution by Andrew Korybko to the Panel Discussion Any advice to Trump? by the American University in Moscow, courtesy of the author: President Trump's first six months in office have left his supporters with decidedly mixed feelings. The BBC ran a story earlier this week about how Abe has become embroiled in yet another corruption scandal for supposedly helping a friend secure government permission to build a veterinary clinic, which isn’t the first time that he’s accused of apparently abusing his office.
