Today is the first day of the rest of my life… Roughly 15 years ago I went to work for Borders with one thing in mind. This would give me the training I needed to one day have my own store. That one day is now here! This morning with lots of smiles and even a few tears Liz and I signed a contract. As of March 15th I will be the owner of The Learned Owl Book Shop. For this I have all of you and many others to thank. You have given me the opportunity to make my dream come ...true. Your kindness and generosity will be a constant reminder of what I am working for every day, the chance to make human connections with people who share a love of books and reading and wish to pass that love on to generations to come. Liz and I are dedicated to ensuring the continued success of the home on 204 N. Main St. that she has worked for 29 years to build. She and Ruby will maintain a presence and I look forward to learning as much as I can from her. I will continue to keep you updated on the journey and the progress of your perk packages. I don’t know that I will ever be able to thank you all enough for your belief in not only me but also the power of books. Happy reading!
Hello! Hoping this message finds everyone happy and healthy. I have been busy working on my business plan and getting lots of questions answered. I have a meeting with my business advisors on Thursday and everthing is progressing nicely. I'm very excited and wish I could share more. Will do so as soon as I can. Thank you all so much again for your support!
Hello Everyone! We have reached the magic day and this online fund raiser is over. Although we did not reach our $50,000 goal, we are 100% further along than when we started. Due to feedback I have received from the community around the Owl I will continue my fund raising at the local level. If you know anyone still interested in donating they can contact me by email firstname.lastname@example.org, through the Owl’s Next Chapter facebook page, or find me at the store. I have no thought...s of throwing in the towel and I am currently working on my business plan. I will consult with my business advisors again and begin talking to banks over the next few weeks. Thanks to all of you we are well are finished with the first draft of the Owl’s next chapter and ready to start the second. I will continue to send updates as everything progresses. I hope you know how much all of your support and donations mean to me. I will never be able to thank you enough for your kindness and generosity.
Can’t believe the last day is really here! 18 hours left on our campaign and I have to thank you all so much again for your donations and support. However, I do have to ask you one more time to please forward, share, tweet, or even stand on a tall building and belt out a plea. We have made such great strides and I know we will see a strong finish today. A million thank you’s will never be enough for what you all have done!
A new blog post for a new day. Less than 24 hours on the indiegogo fundraiser. Thank you so much for all the support. Let's get the word out and have a strong finish. I have a feeling it's going to be a very good year!
A great day for the Owl’s Next Chapter! Thanks to all of you and countless others that have donated outside of indiegogo we are over $20,000!
Despite your amazing efforts we still have a little ways to go and not much time left to do it. However, I remain confident. It’s all about the numbers and when we break it down all things are achievable. It’s as simple as 586 people donating $50 each. Considering there are over 22,000 people in Hudson alone there is no reason we can’t reach our goal. Thank you all so much again for all your support!!
Yet more data confirming what we all know to be true! Long live our crisp, bound pages!!
We have really been picking up steam and we are going into this last week very strong. New donations every day confirm that we are moving in the right direction. Thanks to Lisa and Laura Roeker we have another outside perk. Anyone that donates can visit there blog site for a chance to win a full manuscript critique, signed copies of the first two books in their Liar’s Society series, and the super secret first chapter of the third book in the series. Here’s the link for all the details http://www.lisa-laura.blogspot.com/#!http://lis.... This is one of my favorite YA series and I am so thankful to have their support! Please continue to share the campaign and I’m confident we will have a strong finish. Looking forward to celebrating with all of you! Thank you!!
New Perk Alert! Added the pop up today which includes your child's name and handprint on display in our kid's room for years to come. Inspired by all of the people who have grown up with the Owl or simply a love of books and want to share it with their own children now. As always, thank you for your support!
#3 on the Plain Dealer's Literary News of 2012! Thank you Karen Long!
Wow, what a two weeks it has been! At the Owl we made it through a very successful holiday season. Personally I survived my first cold in two years as well as continued home computer issues. Needless to say, I will not let these things hold me back I am heading into the New Year ready to make my dream of adopting the Owl a reality.
For this, I have all of you to thank. Without you this dream would not be possible. I am so thankful everyday that each and every one of yo...u cares enough to support not just me but this book shop that means so much. One of the best parts of all this has been the opportunity to hear what the Owl means to so many people near and far.
With 13 days left we still have a ways to go, however I am confident that we will reach our goal. No donation is too small and every little bit means more than you know. Please continue to share and I wish all of you a safe and happy New Year.
Since the article in the Beacon I have seen a wonderful spike in donations. Thank you so much to everyone donating, sharing, and supporting! Another big bonus is all the stories and memories people have been sharing with me about the Owl. I would live to see those stories posted here. Please share with us!
Great article in the Beacon Journal today! Thanks to Paula Schleis, Karen Schiely, and Rick Armon for making it happen!
