Today, the Labor Movement lost our union sister and dear friend, Anne Feeney. She was a voice of empowerment for workers, and her music was an inspiration for activism and solidarity across the country.
"I was saddened to learn today of the death of our friend and ally, Anne Feeney. If you needed a labor troubadour and activist, Anne was there whether it was a demonstration, a convention, or a picket line. She was fearless in her commitment to worker solidarity and the fight ...for economic justice. In her music and her covers of Union ballads, you could hear that she was fierce and always upbeat. I was proud to know her, and she will be missed," stated PA AFL-CIO President Rick Bloomingdale.
"I first met Anne Feeney while she was performing at a Steelworker event in Mercer County many years ago. I had not met a local performer with the passion and heart for the organized labor movement as Anne had. I told her that my very first union card was as a member of the American Federation of Musicians (AFM) when I was just 16. As we would see one another countless times at social justice events over the years, we always shared stories of the union activities each of us was currently involved in, and the conversation always ended with acknowledging the power music has to bring people together. And of course, our mutual respect for musicians, and the need to promote live music and protect those working in the industry, as she herself led the Musicians Union in the Pittsburgh area for a time. Solidarity forever, Anne!" remarked State Federation Secretary-Treasurer Frank Snyder.
