What's the furthest you've ever carried your boat?
In the world of creek boating that I enjoy, there tends to be a lot of boat carrying. Sometimes it is only a couple hundred yards during a portage and other times it ends up being many miles; often the latter ends up being type 2 fun. Either way, I'm hoping the adventures and first descents we put down last season will be precursors to plenty of epic adventures this season.
So here's to getting back in shape this spring wit...h the crew and taking our gear and boats for long walks in the mountains.

Huge loss for the kayaking community of the Pacific Northwest. A lot of hearts hang heavy today. You will be missed, Sam.
It is with disbelief and heavy hearts that we learned our longtime volunteer Firefighter/EMT and rescue technician Sam Grafton passed away today. Sam died doing... what he loved, Kayaking the Snoqualmie River near North Bend, WA.
Your friendship to our community and selfless passion for helping others will never be forgotten.
Sam P Grafton is a damned BEAST. Site Zed battle mode: engaged.

Some of the best beaters sent for the Carnage for All video contest organized by Kayak Session Magazine. Videos showcasing kayakers, canoeists, rafters getting ...beat, punished, hammered, ending or not with a swim. Two categories: King of Carnage (Short video featuring one beating only), and, Carnage Reel (Longer videos, « reel style » that shows many beatings). Rules : For films to be accepted no one was seriously injured in the footage shown. #whitewater #beaters #kayak #raft #canoe
Speaking of Kiwi, here is Gage ripping it up on a pretty fun looking slide.
It's been a long time coming but after 3 years of planning, a tropical cyclone to add water and a 10 hour drive, we finally got to paddle at Rere. I might be ab...le to claim a first descent with a kayak on this one too. It normally only has a trickle running over it and is great fun for those on boogie boards only.
This is as hardcore as it gets.
#throwbackthursday: This summer Evan Moore and I decided to run the seldom run "I Want My Mommy Gorge" on Fantasy Falls in California, with Johnny Chase, Carson... Lindsay, and Edward P Muggridge watching on the rim of the gorge above. Very first drop.. BOOM.. Broken paddle and imploded sprayskirt with no way out but downstream, and a set of full-on and technical rapids below. Evan and I both felt confident in the lines, and it was definitely a worst nightmare of both a broken paddle and imploded skirt in a gorge. That night at camp I was very thankful to still be alive and basically unscathed.
A complete descent of Fantasy Falls has never been done before, and after this I portaged 3 times. Evan and I were probably going to do it, but I will save it for someone else to try another time.. Can’t wait to run the rest of the stuff on Fantasy Falls though.
Going big time here!
The worlds first Dead Dutchman Boater X went down yesterday. This rapid is steeped in legend and retains a well deserved reputation as one of the biggest, badde...st and scariest rapids on the White Nile. Several athletes made a well reasoned decision not to participate in this stage and helped provide additional safety for the competitors that were racing. Levels began to spike as the competition began and every successive round the rapid was gnarlier than the previous. The nature of this rapid and race format means that absolutely anything could happen... and it did! Check out the video below and stay tuned for Stage 3!
With thanks to World Class Kayak Academy for sponsoring this stage of the event!
Stout as hell!
What happens when you get complacent on the giant V+ slides of Thompson?
All was well until I got a bit complacent in Skatepark. I was relaxed and just start...ed ramping back and forth, playing with the speed until the ledge shifted a bit sending me hurling into the left wall shoulder/face first. I took the hit with my shoulder and a second hit with my elbows (blocking my face) as my paddle flexed out of my grasp. The hit was so hard it even took a few tries to hand roll at the bottom. Huge thanks to Toby MacDermott for grabbing my paddle and guiding us down this awesome little gorge! I can't wait to post the full length video! Pretty cool fundraiser worth looking at.
This is one of those fundraisers where if we don't reach the goal then we don't get any money. Please consider helping us raise our $8000 goal to bring Bhutan's best kayakers over to the the U.S. for river training and some kayak trips.
