If you have questions or concerns about crime in Bourton on the Water please come along next Thursday 24 May, 7pm where I’ll be chairing the 6-monthly public meeting with Cotswolds police.

Bourton on the Water Parish Council

The Council would remind all residents that a meeting has been scheduled with Cllr Paul Hodgkinson, Cotswolds and representatives from our local Police Force on... 24th May at 7pm in the Community Centre to review issues and actions arising from the November meeting. The Council would encourage as many residents as possible to attend and take part in discussions.

Paul Hodgkinson "Delighted to get unanimous support at today's County Council meeting on getting fast broadband to all parts of Gloucestershire & to lift take up rates of the service to 60%"

Next week I'm calling with my colleague Cllr David Brown for the Home Secretary to put more resources into community policing so they can cut crime. There's been a big rise in violent crime in Gloucestershire and also a 13% leap in all recorded crime.

There was a sharp rise in violent crimes last year

At the County Council my group will be calling formally in 2 weeks' time for the Government to spend more from Vehicle Excise Duty on the disgraceful broken roads. PLEASE SHARE & LIKE IF YOU AGREE!

I asked a series of questions at Shire Hall on Wednesday which confirmed that the County Council spent £1.7million on consultants in the last year. Up by a quarter. Can it really be justified?! Here are the details:

SPENDING on consultants has risen by 23 per cent for the year ending March 31 2018 by Gloucestershire County Council.

At the thriving and expanding Northleach cubs last night. Its been great to support some of their activities through the County Council’s Children’s Activity Fund.

2 sets of gates have just been installed. One set along the A435 in Rendcomb parish and another at the entrance to Shipton village near Andoversford.
In both villages, the parish council and residents have been very concerned about the speed of traffic and have asked for these to alert drivers to the need to slow down and to the fact they're entering a different road set up.
These are small steps in response for calls for action on road safety.

Yesterday the Government announced it was giving an extra £500k to Gloucestershire to fix potholes. Here’s my reaction to that news.

If you're fed up of seeing the road verges full of litter this is at least a step in the right direction. The Cotswolds is an area of outstanding natural beauty but is too often blighted by bottles, take away cartons and sweet wrappers.

Councils in England can impose penalties of up to £150, including for those littering from vehicles.

Next week I’m calling on the County Council to cut out all single use plastics in its services & take a lead in cutting them out across Gloucestershire. I’m doing this with Green councillor Eva Ward - cross-party working to get a positive change!

No surprise - but the roads were already poor before the 'Beast from the East' struck twice.

Freezing weather has torn apart the county's roads

With residents at the Rissington Road in Bourton on the Water. New speed gates have just been installed to help slow traffic down - road safety is a key issue for people here and in many other villages in the Cotswolds.

Today is National Pothole Day. The timing is perfect after last week's snow and ice. Fed up of swerving on the third world roads in Gloucestershire? Tell the County Council what you think please otherwise nothing will change. According to a report at the Council yesterday the roads contractor is 'meeting all its targets'. Of course some of us challenged that!

With more freezing weather forecast for next week, it's not surprising that people in Chedworth aren't happy that Highways have stopped gritting through the main village. It's the ONLY place in the whole of Gloucestershire which has had its gritting route withdrawn this winter. Unfair and unwise. We want the decision reversed.

DISGRUNTLED villagers in Chedworth are feeling abandoned by the County Council after Gloucestershire Highways removed them from the gritting route…

Today a 6 week consultation started for 2 options to solve the A417 Missing Link at the Air Balloon. Both options look do-able to me.

At tomorrow's County Council budget setting meeting I'll be calling for more investment in roads and footways plus a boost to projects to help prevent mental health problems. Let's see if these things get support!
