Creative nonviolence is our mission. A predilection for finding justice amidst war is not how we roll.

Pax Christi Buffalo participated in the peace, justice, and nonviolence festival and walk.

The event supported, celebrated, and made others in the Western New York Community aware of the many organizations and faith communities working to end violence in all its forms in our neighborhoods, our culture, around the world and to our environment. As an integral part of the activities the deep interconnectedness of racism, Islamophobia, misogyny, poverty, war, gun violence and the destruction of Mother Earth.

The Red Road Singers - Haudenosaunee (Six Nations) drummers and singers opened the proceedings including a traditional Go(t) nee goonhleeo – Indigenous Nation’s Welcome and Thanksgiving to all Creation, followed by an interfaith prayer and moment of silence for all victims of violence locally and throughout the world.

We celebrate Indigenous People's Day.

We also mourn the pain the native peoples experience(d).

It was definitely possible to choose one of Bishop Desmond Tutu's more "feel-good" quotes in honor of his 85th birthday, but that would be in service neither to his legacy nor to us who need to learn from it. ⠀

This definitely applies to the U.S. too. We exploited and continue to exploit so many. #BlackLivesMatter #StopTheDeportations #IdleNoMore

Do your part to make sure the elections are fair this year. Get into the spirit of action! Some suggestions:

There are many specific ways that we as Pax Christi USA members can help our Sisters and Brothers exercise their own rights to vote.

Here are a few of them:

1. Volunteer to be an on-site observer on Election Day. One way of doing so is to sign

"To begin our reflection this afternoon, I think it might be important to remind ourselves of those verses from the book of the prophet Habakkuk. "God how long will I cry for help while you pay no attention? I denounce oppression and yet you do not save. Why do you make us see injustice everywhere? Are you pleased to look on tyranny? All we see is outrage, violence, quarrels, wars." Those are the words of Habakkuk 600 years before Jesus, but they could almost be read from our daily papers right now.

That same territory, the Middle East, is overwhelmed with violence and killing, hatred, war. Who dies? Innocent people, mostly."

The Peace Pulpit: "We can take that vision of Jesus and make it our own. We want to follow him. That's faith."

The desperation goes unnoticed, and privileged white countries continue to refuse their fellow humans.

Who believes this presidential election is important? We do!

While Presidential elections are often described as consequential, the Tuesday, November 8, 2016 election surely ranks as one of the most important of our time.
