City Council considers land swap so Peppertree Hospitality can construct hotel in Nampa Civic Center Parking l...ot
NAMPA, ID – Peppertree Hospitality, operating under the Best Western Plus brand and based in Spokane, Wash., announced today that it intends to make a $5 million investment in a new 81-room hotel adjacent to the Nampa Civic Center. The project is slated for completion in October 2016.
The City Council, in a 6-0 vote at tonight’s meeting, declared its intent to enter into a land swap agreement with Peppertree to exchange property for a building located in downtown Nampa. The city will receive a building of approximately 4,000 square feet located at 11 – 13th Avenue South in exchange for approximately 38,905 square feet of land in the west end of the Civic Center parking lot.
After a public hearing on Oct. 19, the City Council will consider the agreement and determine if the value of the building and the land are equal.
In addition, the City Council will review a shared parking agreement between Peppertree and the city of Nampa to accommodate parking for the hotel use, Civic Center and City Hall complex.
To facilitate additional parking the long-standing gym located south of City Hall would be demolished and converted to parking. The building that the City would receive in exchange for the land swap would be used for document storage currently being provided in the gym. The estimated cost for the gym demolition and parking lot construction is $130,000 and would be paid for by Peppertree.
A hotel facility in close proximity to the Nampa Civic Center has been a desire from Civic Center management for the last 15 years. A hotel on site will greatly enhance the ability for the facility to attract multi-day conferences and better serve special occasion events such as weddings.
“We are very excited about this venture,” Nampa Mayor Bob Henry said.
“This will be a state-of-the art multi-story hotel coming to Downtown Nampa that will complement and add excitement to Downtown Nampa. It’s also great to see new buildings in Downtown Nampa that aren’t city owned,” Henry said. “This new $5 million hotel will be on the tax rolls, and it will be beneficial for the Civic Center. It’s been a goal for a long time to have a hotel adjacent to the Nampa Civic Center to attract groups looking for convention space and nearby hotel.
“I also want to thank Rita Santillanes and her family for considering Nampa for this new hotel venture and congratulate Nampa City Economic Development Director Beth Ineck for a job well done. She’s put a lot of work into this project.”

In addition to 81 rooms, the new hotel will feature an indoor swimming pool and fitness center. Guest services will include complimentary breakfast, morning newspaper, internet access and happy hour.
John and Rita Santillanes have chosen Baker Construction in Spokane to build the property.
