We are members of the Hobart YMCA and came to the rock painting class here the other night. The staff were all great looking forward to exploring this facility more in the future

I can not express how grateful I am to the new leadership for listening to members and bringing back Linda as an instructor! THANK YOU! I hope this is just the beginning of getting her back and gett...ing her to do some weight/boot camp style classes like we used to do so long ago! Again, thank you for listening. See More

I’ve always said I hate the gym. But going to the Y makes me want to keep coming back because there’s so much to do there. I love it

Prices keep going up and now late fee's are $20.00 dollars... this is not a community friendly organization. They are not affordable. Im ready to move my services elsewhere.

They mess up and lose a ...kid and now the people who've been loyal and utilizing their services are paying the price. See More

My daughter started the before school program in kindergarten. She is now 13 and has attended summer camp since she was 5. We love how she can be a CIT now. She is learning so much. She will continue ...to be a CIT every summer until she can officially apply to be a counselor. She has also played sports here growing up. We love the staff and they are like a second family. Some of the staff has been here since the day she started and you can tell they genuinely care about how she is doing and what she is up to. See More

This time around the Y has been great! I can't really say a lot about other teachers but Meagen, Angel, Annette, Lexi and Danielle are awesome!! Just wish people would grow up and stop being babies. B...ut hey that's life and you can't get away from it no matter where you go. Sad to leave this Y in June. Kinda anxious about joining another one in a different state. Preschool program is great! Kresha has had 2 of my kids and they have become such awesome little people! Miss Dee at the fun zone is pretty great too! She has helped me with my little when no one else really seemed to want to help. See More

I've been coming to the YMCA since 2012. I have seen a lot of changes come through (some good and some bad), but overall, there has been drastic improvement. Like many others leaving feedback, I do wi...sh the Portage Y had its own pool/aquatics program on site. However, the Y as it is today is thriving and meeting the needs of many. Is it perfect? No, but at least the current management and staff are constantly attempting to improve year after year with the tools they have available. The Fun Zone is top notch (Miss D and Miss Kitty, you are so adored!). There are a lot of great classes available right now, too! The key thing is giving polite feedback when you see something that needs to be changed/addressed. They do (the management does) listen and try to do their best to take suggestions—especially if they are good ideas! I've seen it happen! See More

I really can't believe that this charitable non-profit Christian based facility isn't making enough money to support the facility. First, it doesn't offer near enough that most of the other YMCA facil...ities do. That might be one reason it is not doing well. When you built this particular one you should have went big and you may have gotten the support from the community that you need. Closing the Child Care Development is NOT good. These little children need a Christian supported, state certified, growth development.
It saddens me that you are throwing away our youth! I really don't think you understand the importance; as the employees and our children of your Child Care Development aren't disposable. The employees are our personal CO-PARENTS and we need them!!! Portage ISN`T saturated with child care either! It wasn't easy for me to get my child in your center just for me to turn around and find another place in a two week period. Just saying that maybe you should consider finding the funds, upgrade the facility, develop strength and stability for our children, and, dispose your CEO and Director instead of your attendees and employees. Maybe even say a little prayer so you can make better decisions.

Our family has been a member of the Y for many years. Our kids have been through child care, preschool, and various sports. I always enjoy the greeting I receive when I walk in from not just the staff..., but other members as well. It's a great place to find your happy. See More

Recently started working at the Y, but have been coming to the Y for over 3 years now. It's helped my kids and I become and stay healthier. We've met great people and have made friends that we will ha...ve for a lifetime. It's been our home away from home. See More

They have a staff member who likes to edit images to fake results from the workout class. They claim they can't afford Photoshop, so this is in no way possible. But as a non profit they can get it nea...r free (not that this matters they were still deceiving everyone ) the post is now deleted. Sketchy stuff See More

I went to the ymca yesterday evening for the first time since I moved to this area. I was excited walking in and was planning on buying a family membership but that quickly changed. When I walked in n...o one greeted me or even smiled. The lady at the desk just glanced up and continued talking to another lady wbehind the counter. I waited for second then told the lady I wanted to get a pass for the day, I tried to be nice as possible and make small talk but the lady made it difficult. After she checked me in I told her I didn't know where to go and she looked up annoyed and said "down the hall" Another lady at the desk I asked me what I was looking for and pointed me in a better direction.

The machines were ok, nothing fancy or new. Which is fine because it gets the job done but I couldn't get over how rude the lady at the front desk was.

I attended Omni for awhile before trying the YMCA (hoping the Y would be a little cheaper) and the staff was just so nice at Omni. They showed me around on my first day and made sure I knew where everything was unlike the Portage Y where I had to wonder around the hall ways to figure out where everything was (I still do not know where most of the stuff is) I have heard good thing about the Valpo Y maybe I'll try that out.

We LOVE the Portage YMCA! I'm able to attend group exercise classes while I know that my kids are having a blast and being cared for by great and caring people in the fun zone. It's also been a great ...please to meet wonderful people! Both my kids and I have created great friendships that started at the Y! See More

I used to love going to the YMCA, now I'm just disappointed. The facility hours are constantly changing and does not accommodate those of us who work out in the evening. Winter hours are until 10pm, s...o why did you close at 9pm? The facility was closed for New Years Day, which I get but today is not a holiday. Really considering getting a gym membership somewhere else. See More

I moved here from Florida about 9 months ago and got a job in the daycare right away. Had it not been for the wonderful people I met, I probably would have ran off back to the sunshine state within a ...month. I've made friends I'm starting to hold near and dear, I've made connections with members, and children in our daycare and y-care program as well. The Y reignited a passion I have towards making positive impact in people's lives. It's become more than just a gym, more than just a job, but a home away from home. See More

The Portage YMCA is a great place to be. I have truly met a lot of great people and have made a lot of connection with the member. It has become a 2nd family at the YMCA. With the friends and relation...ships I have built there we all truly care about one another. So I love going there and seeing everyone and how they are doing. Also always excited to see new faces and meet more members and make more connections and lasting relationships!! See More

I was there for a wonderful gymnastics birthday party. The facility was clean, everyone was courteous and the young ladies in the gymnastics area were very sweet. Unfortunately as we were winding down... there was some issues regarding whether or not some of the parents were rude to the workers and not following directions. This was not the case which upon proper investigation the gymnastics director who wasn't supervising the party would have found out that the accusations were unfounded. Instead she was quite rude, accusatory and even made the birthday girls mom cry. It was just unfortunate that because of one persons unprofessional behavior a perfectly wonderful party was ruined. My suggestion is that there is some staff training on how to seal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner. See More
