WASHINGTON, June 23 -- The Purdue Institute for Civic Communication, in partnership with The Washington Post, hosted a forum yesterday evening at the National Press Club, in which public schools were seen as more a problem than solution in civic education in America, due to lack of support and overall quality of education.
Compounding the problem, panelists said, are too much use of social media and divisions in the nation that make finding a solution that works for all a spe...cial challenge.
Valerie Strauss, education reporter and author of The Answer Sheet blog at The Washington Post, moderated the discussion with The Post’s America Desk Editor, Josh White, and the PICC Executive Director, Carolyn Curiel.
The forum was the final event for the PICC, which completes its four-year grant from the Daniels Fund this month. Ambassador Curiel has said she would not continue at Purdue University after her contract expires in December 2017.
The event also celebrated former PICC students making their careers in Washington, as well as the final group of PICC summer interns in the nation’s capital.
