Movement Equals Improvement
Evan uses a wheelchair and hasn’t skied since he was 15 years old. Tears fell down his face as he got to experience the slopes in a new way.
🤣...#Day4 was our #FinalFunSkiDay. It felt like a #RollerCoaster ride...wait, that’s EXACTLY what we did on the Breathtaker Alpine Coaster in between ski runs w...ith my #SkiTribe: Karen and Alice from Challenge Aspen today. WARNING: you may need to #TurnDown your volume so we can #TurnUP the #CoasterFUN. #CelebrateAbilities #SHAREThis #disAbilityLife
So my Coaches (and Coaster attraction team) took special care during un/load as well as the #RideAlong assist, especially since this was my 1st (roller) coaster ride since TBI/SCI. The 2-miles of (moderate) dips, dives and loops at speeds of up to 28mph took up 10 mins of GoPro footage - so we shortened it for your brief viewing pleasure...LOL! Lower Left photo are the SpecialOlympics skiers (green jackets) and their coaches (blue jackets). Lower right photo are all but a few of the Shepherd Center team, participants and our INCREDIBLE Coaches! #ChanceOfaLifetime Aspen/Snowmass- Colorado, USA Aspen/Snowmass Ski Resort Aspen/Snowmass Condo Snowmass Village, Colorado #disAbilityLife
Experts agree that exercise has benefits that go beyond the physical.
Movement "stimulates your body. It stimulates your mind. It puts your psyche in a better place," said Dr. Margaret "Meg" Fisher, medical director of the Unterberg Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch.
