This email means the world to me. Most days I’m timing showers or helping you decide what to wear. But the ultimate career goal is to keep people safe and informed when the weather is dangerous. To know that I have done that even once is everything! So glad the kids are OK, thank you so much for sharing!! And thinking of everyone who is continuing to clean up the mess that remains. But wait...there’s more! Today the US National Weather Service Albany NY confirmed two more tornadoes in Connecticut. One in Winsted and another in Barkhamsted. *Intensity “U” for unknown since the tornado stayed over the reservoir. I posted video of it in a previous post —> https://www.facebook.com/RachelWeather/posts/1870564096321721
From SKY61...The trees in Brookfield are all knocked down in the same direction indicating straight-line wind damage (macroburst). Tornado, macroburst...whatever caused it you still have to clean up the mess just the same.
CONFIRMED: Two EF1 tornadoes and a macroburst hit Connecticut yesterday! This includes Southbury, Oxford, Beacon Falls, Bethany and Hamden. The NWS will have the full report tomorrow but here are their preliminary findings: https://www.weather.gov/okx/StormSurveys (The red shading is not the exact tornado track but areas that received some of the worst damage during the storm.)
JUST IN: Winds of 100-110 MPH WINDS estimated near Brookfield yesterday from a macroburst (straight-line winds). The National Weather Service still has to investigate other towns though. Read the first report here: https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php…
Tornado or straight-line winds? The National Weather Service will be on the ground in CT, particularly in these towns:
Their report will be out by 8 PM with the results. But I feel confident at least one tornado touched down Tuesday by looking at the radar signature.
The National Weather Service will be investigating damage like this tomorrow to figure out what was straight-line winds and what was tornado damage.
We got a direct hit by a tornado at the farm today. We are blessed to all be alive. Mom, Dad and I were locking down the greenhouse when it hit, the second gree...nhouse took off and landed on top of the greenhouse we were in. Luckily we ran to the house and not the old store/ storage barn, which is completely destroyed now on top of tractors and equipment. Hoping neighbors we did not check on and other Bethany residents are okay.
