I culturally appropriate. I’m OK with that. We all do. What’s my culture anyway? MUST I be part of my cultures’ culture? Must I eat hamburgers, wear designer jeans, and golf to be culturally appropriate and then perhaps I’ll be genuine & an authentic person? Please give me a break. Who owns Yoga or connection with the Divine? Does anyone church, Ashram synagogue,or mosque have a monopoly on God or truth?
aren’t we all culturally mutts anyway? I find this accusation of we...stern yogis “culturally (mis)appropriating yoga be laughable at best and to be bigoted at worst. Most Indians will admit that they abandoned their culture for the last 30 years to culturally appropriate Americanism.
it’s many Westerners or non-Indians who have gone into India with deep sincerity and sacrifice and excavated India’s lost treasures and re-introduced & re- inspired India in their own lost culture. This is not only true with Yoga asana But Indian dance, classical Indian music and kirtan, Sanskrit, Ayurvedic medicine, Vedic Astrology etc.
