This week’s male athlete of the week is Anthony Houk of Rockcastle County. Anthony is a prospect out of the class of 2018 who plays baseball for the Rockcastle Rockets (School Ball), and the Elite Baseball Club (Travel Ball). Anthony can play multiple positions in the infield and outfield although he primarily plays 3rd base and pitcher. He is always willing to do whatever is needed to help put his team in the best position to win. During the 2017 baseball season Anthony batt...ed .310, complied 22 RBI’s, 2 Stolen Bases, had 2 Home Runs, and won 8 games as a pitcher. Some of Anthony’s highlights so far from his career in baseball include being named to the 2017 16U PG Evoshield Classic All-Tournament Team in which he batted .500, being named to the 2017 WWBA 2018 Grads All-Tournament Team in which he batted.466, hitting his first home run as well as being the winning pitcher in 2017 against the only undefeated team in the state of Kentucky at the time, and being a 4 year starter for the Rockcastle Rockets. It is obvious that Anthony always brings a positive and winning attitude to the team which illustrates why he is a great teammate.
Not only is Anthony a great player on the field, but he also is producing positive results in the classroom. Anthony currently has a 4.0 GPA, enjoys taking math courses, is involved in many clubs at school, and has an ACT score of 24. After high school Anthony has an ultimate goal of continuing his education and playing collegiate baseball. Anthony would like to start his studies to becoming a physical therapist so he still would have the ability to be around sports. Anthony could also see himself being a coach a one day where he loves the game so much and helping others be successful. Besides playing sports and focusing on his studies Anthony enjoys hanging out with friends, hunting, fishing, and just anything to do with being outdoors. It is obvious that Anthony has all the traits required and a positive attitude to be successful in the future in whatever path he chooses for himself.

This week’s female athlete of the week is Riley Turner who is a two sport athlete in the sports of Softball and Basketball. Riley is a prospect from the class of 2022 who plays for Jackson City (School Ball) and the Legacy Power (Travel Ball). Every time Riley steps on the field or court she brings a winning attitude to the team as well as a strong work ethic and a desire to win. Some of Riley’s accomplishments in softball include the following: a career batting average of .4...27, slugging percentage of .495, on base percentage of .464, 21 stolen bases, fielding percentage of .955, and when pitching complied an ERA of 3.5.
Not only is Riley a successful athlete but she is a great student as well. Riley currently has a 3.8 GPA, is a member of the National Junior Honors Society as well as the Unite Club, and her favorite subject is Biology. Riley’s ultimate goal would be to one day play collegiate softball and start her studies to becoming a Veterinarian. Riley is very focused on everything she does and always puts forth maximum effort. Her coach absolutely loves coaching Riley and describes her as always being very coachable, dedicated, hard-working, and that she always portrays a love for the game. Her ultimate goal would to one day be able to play collegiate softball or basketball. Riley’s drive and ambition are what keeps her dreams and goals possible on continuing to play at the next level in the future.

This week’s male athlete of the week is Cade Burdette of Rockcastle County. Cade is a prospect out of the class of 2019 who plays golf for the Rockcastle Rockets. Cade has been playing golf all of his life and has a name that most everyone around the state of Kentucky knows when it comes to golf. Cade is very interested in playing collegiate golf and furthering his education at the next level. To this point he has accumulated an impressive resume that most golfers will never ...accomplish. Some of Cade’s accomplishments include the following: three time Central KY Bluegrass Conference South Division Player of the Year, five time selection to the Central KY Bluegrass Conference First Team All-Conference Team, 10th Region All-Tournament Team Member, 2014 Kentucky Middle School State Champion, 2014 Middle School Masters State Champion, U.S. Kids Qualifier in 2013, and he has placed on over 20 All-Tournament Teams throughout his high school career. In conference matches for the last five years, Cade has maintained a scoring average as a par golfer, which is no easy feat.

Not only is Cade an excellent golfer, but he is a great student as well. Cade currently has a 3.8 GPA, and his favorite classes are Social Studies and Science. He is also involved in the following clubs at school: Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Teenage Republicans, and the Rocket/Spirit Club. His ultimate goal would be to one day play professional golf, if that didn’t work out Cade would love to be a pharmacist. Besides playing golf Cade loves to hang out with friends, play basketball, fish, hunt, and enjoys anything to do with being outdoors. From time spent around Cade it is evident that his talents on the course and his academics will ultimately give him the option to further his career with golf after his high school playing days are over.

This week’s female athlete of the week is Madison Parman of Laurel County who is a softball prospect from the class of 2022. Madison currently plays for North Laurel (school ball) & the EFK Lady Katz (travel ball). Madison has had an impressive start to her career so far. Madison plays multiple positions on the field, some of the positions she has played have been pitcher, 2nd base, and outfield. She is willing to do whatever is needed for the team to win. Madison bats as a s...witch hitter, which makes her very unique and lethal to opponents. She is a right handed hitter, but also is a left handed slap hitter. Some of Madison’s accolades thus far include an All-Tournament Team Selection at the Asbury College Fall Classic, numerous tournament wins, a 23-0 record as a pitcher in 2017, 123 strike-outs recorded in 2017, and a batting average of over .760 during the 2017 season. As a pitcher Madison has a wide arsenal to work with. Besides her 58 MPH Fastball she also can throw a Change-Up, Drop-Ball, Drop-Curve, and Screw-Ball. For her age you don’t see that many kids with that many pitches they can turn to.

Not only is Madison an outstanding athlete for her class, she also is a terrific student as well. Madison has a 4.0 GPA, enjoys math and science class, is part of the Gifted and Talented Program at school, and is a member of the Duke Honor Society. Madison’s coach describes her as a “terrific athlete who always gives 100%. She is most likely the player with the dirtiest jersey at the end of each game. She always finds a way to win and lays it all on the line for her team. Her work ethic is tremendous and is a player every coach would love to have”. Madison prides herself on being a hard worker and a team first player. She believes that it’s all about the good of the team and what she can contribute to make the team better. Others would describe her as a team first player who always tries to lead by example, keeps a great attitude at all times, and is an athlete who is extremely coachable. Madison has dreams of playing collegiate softball in the future and is currently on the right path to achieving those dreams and making them a reality

This week’s male athlete of the week is Hunter Rigsby of Rockcastle County. Hunter is a prospect out of the class of 2018 that plays high school baseball for the Rockcastle Rockets, and summer travel ball for the Cincinnati Flames. Hunter primarily plays 1st Base and pitcher. He is a well-known Kentucky player and is considered to be one of the best players in the 2018 class in the state. Some of his accolades include the following: being named to the 12th Region KHSAA All-Re...gion Tournament Team, being named to the 47th District All-Tournament Team, was named a Rawlings 2018 Top Prospect, and has been named to two other All-Tournament Teams (WWBA Lake Point GA & WWBA Fort Myers Florida) for his Summer Ball Team the Cincinnati Flames. In 2017 for his high school and travel ball seasons he was able to gather 13 wins as a pitcher, had 123 strike-outs against opponents, and also had a .365 batting avg. with 6 Home Runs on the season. Hunter also throws the ball very hard for a pitcher averaging around 87 MPH.

Not only is Hunter a great athlete, but he is also an amazing student as well. He has a 3.95 GPA, is a member of the Berea Scholars Program, and enjoys taking criminal justice classes. For fun Hunter loves to hang out with friends, hunt, and fish. One of Hunter’s past coaches described him as a terrific athlete who has a work ethic that is second to none. Hunter has an ultimate goal of furthering his career by playing collegiate baseball and seeing where it takes him from there. From time spent around Hunter it is evident that his talents and academics will ultimately give him the option to further his career in baseball after his high school playing days come to an end.

This week’s male athlete of the week is Dylan Bullen of Rockcastle County. Dylan is a prospect out of the class of 2020 who runs cross country and track for the Rockets. For such an early career he has excelled as an athlete. Dylan has been the team MVP for the past 4 seasons, been named the “Central Kentucky Runner of the Year”, and has been an “Individual State Qualifier” for two straight years. Some of his personal best times include the following: 1 mile– 4:58, 5K (XC) – ...17:29.85, 4K (XC) – 14:13.04, 3200m – 10:51.38, 3000m- 10:45.57, 1600m – 4:58.24, and 800m – 2:19.56. He plans on continuing to push towards improving his times and helping his team succeed in every way possible. Besides running for the Rockets he also has excelled in the classroom. Dylan has 3.8 GPA and his favorite subject is Agriculture. Some of the clubs he is involved in are Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and the Jackson County Runners Club. Everyone describes Dylan as a hardworking, talented, goal-oriented, and as a well-mannered young man. Dylan has goals of continuing his education and running collegiately one day.

This week’s male athlete of the week is Joe Benton of Estill County. Joe is a prospect out of the class of 2020 that is a two sport star athlete in golf and basketball. Joe has played varsity golf since he was in the 4th grade and varsity basketball since he was in the 7th grade. As an 8th grader Joe started on the varsity basketball team. So far in his career he has been named to the All-Region Team in golf for the last 4 years, was the 2016 & 2017 11th Region Player of the... Year in golf, was a 2nd Team All-State selection in golf, and was the Player of the Game in the CSI Classic in basketball earlier this year. Joe is not only a terrific athlete, but student as well. Joe currently has a 4.5 GPA and his favorite subject is math. Joe’s ultimate goal is to play collegiately either with golf or basketball. His dream job is to become a PGA teaching professional.
