Primary School Places at Gwenllian Education Centre!

We are now welcoming expressions of interest for primary placements for children age 7+.

Places are availab...le to children that are resident in authorities throughout South Wales including Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion, Powys, Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Carmarthenshire and possibly more.

Local authorities should provide parents with a list of all schools and authorities have a legal responisbility to ensure we are included on the list as we have been approved by the Welsh Government. We would be interested to hear from families to find out if we are on the list of schools in your authority.

Autism Specialist School Placements

We are a registered Independent School for Children with Autism and Related Conditions.

New Seminar: 'Your Child's Education'

We are hosting a Seminar on Monday January 18th hosted by Education Consultant, Lisa Savage.

Lisa specialises in providing... advice and support on all inclusion matters relating to special educational needs.

Lisa will be presenting a seminar regarding the special educational entitlement of school age children with additional learning needs.

Lisa will discuss issues relating to a child's statement, independent development plans and school placements.

This seminar will be suitable to parents of children with additional learning needs particulalry those concerned about their childs education.

This seminar will take place at the Gwenllian Education centre at 10 - 12; Monday 18th January.

Appointments are available by request for a consultation during the afternoon.

Join us at our Centres Open Evening next Tuesday Evening

OPEN EVENING

Not long now until our Open Evening, taking place at Gwenllian Education Centre, on Tuesday 1st December at 6 pm.

We will be joined with a number o...f guest speakers including:

Dr Gareth Noble, Associate professor and course leader of the MSc Autism Course at Swansea University. Dr Noble will be delivering an insight into Autism and how an effective education can enhance the social, independent and personal lives of individuals on the spectrum, and reduce the need for long dependence and assistance from others including the social and health care services.

Kate Wedlake recently completed a placement at our Centre while studying for a Masters degree in Autism at Swansea University. Through her research into the use of PECS, Kate developed a resource that we provide to parents regarding common problems experienced when implementing PECS. Kate will be presenting her findings and sharing her booklet, titled 'A trouble shooting guide for Parents'.

Leigh Hipkiss BSc MA is Head teacher at the Gwenllian and our Independent Autism Advisory Teacher. Leigh has a wealth of experience in developing specialist educational provision for children and young adults on the autism spectrum. Leigh will deliver a talk about developing a relevant curriculum and will provide information about the curriculum at the Gwenllian Edcucation Centre and its relationship with the Pyramid Approach to Education.

David, and his identical twin brother, Liam Carpenter, who will now be joining David, will be sharing their experiences of growing up with high functioning autism. They will provide an insight their experiences of relationships, education, independence and more!

Hopefully we will see you next Tuesday. No booking necessary.

We will also be providing drinks and appetisers to celebrate our first birthday.

2 x support workers required to support our teenage client on Saturday afternoons (2 - 3 a month). Sessions will be held at our Centre in Kidwelly and on community based activities. Experience of supporting individuals on the autism spectrum and/or complex behaviours preferable but not essential. Driving license preferred and successful employment will be subject to a satisfactory DBS disclosure. Vehicle provided. Excellent rates of pay. Full training provided.
