As chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, I helped ush…er through Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act (WIIN). Yesterday, we announced a $5.6 million grant to replace lead service lines in Benton Harbor through the WIIN Act. In these unprecedented times with so much uncertainty, families should be able to be certain about this: their drinking water is safe for their children, friends, and loved ones.

I was with MSU students in March when they heard their classes would… go all virtual, and one of them turned to me and said that they don’t have access to internet at home. It’s 2020 – that needs to change. Too many families – especially in rural areas like here in southwest Michigan – lack access to reliable, high-speed internet. Especially as many of us work, take classes, and utilize telehealth services from home, we need to ensure all families have access to broadband service. Honored to take part in the third annual Gryphon Place Suicide Prevention Walk today in Kalamazoo. An important reminder that we need to continue to work together to address mental health issues and that by coming together as a community we can help those suffering and prevent tragic instances of suicides.
