Recently, I took to the House Floor to recognize James “Skip” Rutherford, the dean of the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock.

Skip planned to retire this year. He stayed longer than anticipated in order to help the school’s students, faculty, and staff to weather the storm of COVID-19. Obviously, he is extremely dedicated to the people with whom he works.

He has been instrumental in the building of the William J. Clinton Presidential Librar...y, and in the development of the Little Rock River Market district. In addition, he has coordinated the 40th anniversary commemoration of the 1957 integration of Little Rock Central High School, which led to the school being named the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site.

Please join me in wishing Skip a fulfilling, active retirement.

I was honored to speak at the 200th Anniversary of the oldest businesses of any kind in our state, and the oldest law firm west of the Mississippi, the Rose Law Firm.

The Rose Law Firm was founded sixteen years before Arkansas became a state. Their two centuries of partner-stewardship, and devotion to their clients, is exceptional. Their impact, and influence, is seen clearly here at home, and across our nation.

It was good to see Arkansas Secretary of Commerce Mike Preston, Mayor Frank Scott Jr., Managing Member Robyn Allmendinger, Brian Rosenthal, and Heidi Herrell at this inspiring bicentennial.
