Congress thought we had a deal to fund the government through February 8 until yesterday, when President Trump decided to blow that deal up. Instead, President Trump said he will shut down the government “for a very long time” over funding for his ineffective, wasteful border wall, forcing more than 420,000 federal employees – including 54,000 Customs and Border Patrol agents, 53,000 TSA employees, 41,000 law enforcement officials, 14,000 air traffic control operators, 5,500 Secret Service employees, and more – to work WITHOUT PAY over the holiday season. The president needs to stop playing games with the federal government and the dedicated employees that help run it and end the #TrumpShutdown.
