I’m happy to share the video of our virtual awards ceremony from last night, where I announced the winners of my 2020 high school art competition. I was very touched by our first place winner, Steve Gomez’s, acceptance remarks. I’m incredibly proud of all our young artists! First Place: Steve Gomez of Paramount High School for his “Life Support in Hands” pointillism painting in acrylic and tempera paint. Second Place: Sarah Barrios of Downey High School for watercolor painting titled “Hands of Hope.” Third Place: Nathalie Casas of Maywood Academy High School for her acrylic painting “Aurora.” Honorable Mention Awardees: Bell High School recent graduate Eduardo Valverde for his pen and ink drawing ”La Casa Del Misterio”; Downey High School student Bibiana Delosangles Leon for her mixed media art work “Sister Butterfly”; and Dr. Maya Angelou Community High School student Boston Pablo from South Los Angeles and his graphite pencil drawing “Charisma.“ People’s Choice Award: Carrie Breault, a recent Downey High School graduate who received the most votes on Facebook for her art piece “Float To Your Dreams.”
