Good morning!
In case you missed it, here's my interview yesterday on Fox News. We had a great discussion about the Problem Solvers Caucus and our bipartisan proposal to try and fix health care. People want solutions!
Not very long -- just under 5 minutes. Enjoy!

Well here's some new information that might surprise you Democratic and Republican members of Congress actually working together to try to fix care the the law law makers makers set set to to release release their their proposed proposed changes changes today today after after skinny skinny repeal repeal failed failed to to pass pass in in the the us us Senate Senate if if you're you're congressman congressman Tom Tom swazi swazi joins joins me me now now he he is is a a Democrat Democrat and and vice vice chair chair of of the the book book bipartisan bipartisan the the problem problem solvers solvers caucus caucus so so do do you you stand stand a a chance chance of of solving solving this this problem problem they down down we we got got 40 40 elected elected officials officials Congress Congress members members 20 20 Democrats Democrats 20 20 Republicans Republicans working working together together to to try try and and find find a a way way forward forward people people are are sick sick and and tired tired of of us just just fighting fighting with with each each other other they they want want solutions solutions and and people people scared scared this this is is a a life life and and death death issue issue for for a a lot lot of of people people in in this this country country and and we we need need to to work work together together to to solve solve this this problem problem can't can't be be all all Democratic Democratic you you can't can't be be all all Republican Republican and and he's he's the the both both sides sides working working together together to to try try and and solve solve very very complex complex issues issues why why have have the the two two parties parties hardened hardened into into such such camp camp such such delineated delineated campaign campaign this this is is a a long long conversation conversation as as to to what's what's going going on on in in our our country country but but a a lot lot of of it it has has to to do do with with the the fact fact that that most most of of the the seats seats are are safe safe to to their they're all all Democratic Democratic or or all all Republican Republican guaranteed guaranteed wins wins for for Democratic Democratic Republican Republican candidate candidate so so they're their only only worry worried about about primaries primaries so so that that Democrats Democrats play play to to the the left left Republicans Republicans pray pray to play play to to the the right right cause cause they're they're afraid afraid the the primaries primaries very very few few people people are are trying trying to to work work in in the the Middle Middle we're we're trying trying to to break break through through that that and and get get people people to to work work in in the the Middle Middle trying trying to to solve solve this this problem problem so so in in the the meantime mean time nothing nothing gets gets done done what what would would be be some some of of your your propose propose solutions solutions you you like like the the idea idea of of repeal repeal some some of of the the Obama Obama care care taxes taxes is is right right well well we're we're talking talking about about getting getting rid rid of of the the medical medical device device tax tax is is an an example example there that was was a a big big give give that that we we gave gave to to the the Republicans Republicans is is part part of of this this negotiation negotiation we we talk talk about about changing changing the the size size of of the the employer employer mandate mandate instead instead of of being being for for companies companies with with 50 50 employees employees moving moving up up to to 500 500 employees employees as as Democrats Democrats we refill fill us us and and we we can can give give that that because because 90 90 percent percent of of employers employers in in America America give give health health insurance insurance to to their their employees employees anyway anyway when when they're they're over over 50 50 employees employees you you talk talk to to some some of of the the experts experts who who help help to the right write this this the the first first place place for for the the Democratic Democratic side side we're we're very very interested interested in in stabilizing stabilizing the the individual individual market market we we see see these these premiums premium is going going up up and see sci companies companies pulling pulling out out we we see see people people very very worried worried that that they they can't can't pay pay their their out out of of pocket pocket cost cost with with their their deductibles deductibles and and with with their their Co Co pays pays so so we we need need to to stabilize stabilize the the individual individual marketplace marketplace and and that's that's a a big big give give to to the the Democrats Democrats so so Democrats Democrats cut cut and and Republicans Republicans got got compromise compromise okay okay but but what what is is it it take take them them to to stabilize stabilize that that individual individual marketplace marketplace what what you you need need is is a a thing thing called called cost cost sharing sharing reductions reductions that that are are in in place place now now the the President President and and saying saying some some very very UN and helpful helpful UN and helpful helpful things things about about saying saying we're we're gonna gonna pull pull out out those those cost cost saving saving sharing sharing reductions reductions if if that that happens happens the the whole whole thing thing would would collapse collapse we we don't don't wanna wanna see see that that implode implode the the way way he he suggested suggested is is that that is is that that taxpayer tax payer money money than than that that is is propping propping those those up up yes yes it it is is and and it's it's also also like like a a reinsurance reinsurance program program for you you know know when when you you have have an an insurance insurance company company one one of of the the big big ideas ideas behind behind the the affordable affordable care care act act in in the the first first place place when when you you have have as as many many people people insured insured as as possible possible especially especially healthy healthy people people healthy healthy young young people people because because that it helps helps to to balance balance the the cost cost for for the the insurance insurance industry industry so so that that the the sick sick people people and and the the healthy healthy people people are are together together in in the the market marketplace place it that helps helps to to balance balance out out the the cost cost and we've we think think that that by by propping propping up up the the individual individual marketplace marketplace it it will will help help to to stabilize stabilize the the market market overall overall so so you've you've got got 40 40 members members in in your your problem problem solvers solvers company company Democrats Democrats 20 20 Republican Republican you you only only need need what what about about 200 200 and and 20 20 more more to to to to get get something something passed passed through through the the Congress Congress was was only only 22 22 uh uh difference difference between between the the Democrats Democrats and and Republicans Republicans a a lot lot of of times times the the freedom freedom culture culture for for example example blocks blocks things things because because they've they've got got 40 40 votes votes we we think think that that having having 40 40 go go to to the the votes votes of of moderates moderates we we can can help help to to be be a a people people to to get get the the yes yes as as opposed opposed to to getting getting to to know know it's it's important important to to recognize recognize that that in in the the country country right right now now about about a hundred a hundred and and 60 million 60 million people people get get their their insurance insurance from from their their employer employer 70 million 70 million people people get get their their insurance insurance for for Medicare Medicare 50 million 50 million people people get get their their insurance insurance for for medicaid medicaid about about 30 million 30 million people people are are uninsured uninsured and and eighteen eighteen million million people people are are in in this this individual individual market market which which is is imploding imploding the the thing thing that that we we keep keep hearing hearing all all the the time time about about premiums premiums are are going going up up insurers insurers are are pulling pulling out out of of the the marketplace marketplace so so it's it's a a fairly fairly small small portion portion of of the the of of those those who who are are insured insured it's it's it's it's right right and and it's it's one one of of the the reasons reasons one one of of the the things things we we hear hear about about the the most most and and in in the the news news all all the the time time if if we we could could help help stabilize stabilize that that it it will will help help the the entire entire country country everybody everybody who's who's worried worried about about their their health health care care you you think think your your chances chances are are I I feel feel good good because because I I think think that that American American people people are are desperate desperate for for people people to to work work together together they're they're sick sick of of all all the the sniping sniping they they want want us us to to cooperate cooperate and and sundays sundays are are life life and and death death issues issues serious serious issues issues you you know know there there isn't isn't I I travel travel to to Afghanistan services Committee on foreign Affairs Committee this is serious business the killer politics be so small and so petty and so insignificant this is serious stuff that people need to work together solve problems make peoples lives better let's hope you get to more members in a group of 40 thank you John from the appreciate it thank you very much my
