Comptroller Stringer to Host Sandy Oversight Unit Hearing in the Rockaways

New York City Comptroller Scott M. Stringer will host a hearing with his new Sandy Oversight Unit at Mount Carmel Baptist Church in the Rockaways on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m.

The Sandy Oversight Unit is a first-of-its-kind initiative that draws upon the audit, contracts, budget and policy divisions of the Comptroller’s Office to hold government accountable in the rebuilding of New York City from Supers...torm Sandy.

Comptroller Stringer will be joined by Deputy Comptrollers from his office to hear testimony, take suggestions for audit topics and identify parts of the recovery effort that are in need of scrutiny and improvement.

The Sandy Oversight Unit will review and audit Sandy spending and programs, including a recently announced audit of the Build it Back program, identify areas where performance can be strengthened and fraud and waste can be prevented, and make recommendations to improve the rebuilding process for communities.

This Saturday the Rockaway Beach Surf Club is hosting a big "Thank You" party for all of the amazing folks who volunteered throughout the winter and would like you to be our guest.

The surf club and several families on our block are opening their homes for an intimate "block party," so you can see firsthand the major progress that has been made. Our neighbors from all over Rockaway are also coming out to say Thank You for your incredible work this winter.

We're also teaming u...p with Tribeca Film Festival to kick off a three-part "Secret Screening" series. For this event the film is geared towards our volunteers on bike.
