For the camping crowd, I call it "The Maui of the Rockies". I will miss it this year, since we sold our camper. I will be back, though.

We have been camping at Ridgway State Park since it opened. It is so wonderful to always see the camp host friends that we have made over the years. Every year it is like coming home to see your famil...y and enjoy the great scenery knowing that the beauty still stands because the volunteers keep such great care of the grounds. If your looking for a great place to camp this is the spot for you. See More

Ridgway was just what we needed after driving through the pass between Silverton and Ouray. Close to everything and a great atmosphere . My son enjoyed playing with all of the other kids camping there ...at the playground . It was a great experience . Beautiful place. See More

Ridgway is a beautiful park with a great view of the mountains. The shower house is quite nice and has always been clean when I've been there. It is very convenient to Ouray and Telluride with seve...ral exciting four wheel drives in the area. See More

We have had a glorious stay at Ridgway State Park! Probably would have given 5 stars if not for the lack of on site water hookups, and having to hook up the trailer every three days to go dump the tanks!

We booked our trip 3 months in advance and have been anticipati ng a fun weekend get away. By the time it was all said and done our group spent close to $700.00 (campsites , reservatio n fees, park passe...s, food, etc.) only to be treated like crap and harassed by the rangers over and over. We followed the "quiet time" rule of 10 pm, had our fun around the campfire, and went to bed. In the morning a ranger with a power trip came pulling up to our site to complain about several things. He said that there was a noise complaint the night before, and then began to grill us about how many people we had, what sites we rented, and counted our tents. He concluded with "this is your warning". Ok...guess we will be even MORE quiet tonight and that will solve things, right?? Nope. A few hours later 2 more rangers stopped by to count our people, count our tents, tell us we had a complaint last night, and also tell me that the tire on my truck had slipped 1/ 2 inch onto the grass and that was not allowed. Ok, now were pissed. Thanks for reminding us AGAIN. A few hours later, 2 more rangers pulled up to make sure we knew what time quiet hours were....got it! They also started to go into all the crap we already heard, but when I told them how many times we had been "talked to" they apologized and said they didn't want to harass us....than ks for not being an A-hole like the others!! We were all afraid to even have a good time that night. We spent dam good money to enjoy our selves (responsib ly), and were unable to do that...we won't give Ridgeway our business ever again. They ran it like a concentrat ion camp! See More

The park rangers are rude! I grew up going to this park wether it was for camping or to swim in the lake and never have I ever experience d a ranger so out to get the people who are there to enjoy thei...r time. It's late in the year and the lake is pretty low which is to be expected.. .we ventured outside the ropes where the designated swim area is to enjoy floating in the water and get away from all the kids splashing in the water...no w keep in mind the lake is very low at this point in time due to drainage.. .so at the deepest part of the swim area it still barely reached my chest...we were only about 20ft or so on the other side of the ropes in sturdy tubes that we have taken on the river...no t those flimsy plastic pool floaties.. ..also keep in mind that it was me, my mom, and boyfriend who are all adults, not drinking or under any sort of influence, and sitting in our floatation devices in the water. Not being disruptive just enjoying the sun and water. A couple of park rangers come up to us in their boat and proceed to read us the right act on how our floatation devices were not safe and asked if we had life jackets with us. We did not as A.the water was not that deep and B. There was not any boats in the area that we were in...she proceeded to harass us and read us all the state park "laws" we were breaking.. ..now I don't know about anyone else but I am not a lawyer nor do I read state park rule/ law books in my free time...so we unfortunately were unaware of the fact that our tubes needed to have more than one chamber to inflate and that we needed to have a life jacket readily available. ..I understand that safety is important but what happened next really floored me...the ranger proceeded to have us follow her to the beach area in her boat and she began to write us a citation "ticket" for not having a life jacket. Other bystanders stood by while this happened and 30 minutes later after the ranger had left and we received a ticket costing us 50$, other swimmers were shocked and agreed that a warning would have sufficed. We were not causing any trouble and honestly were unaware that a life jacket was required beyond a certain point. About an hour or so later another person came up on the beach after being out on her paddle board (without a life jacket) and a different park ranger approached her and politely asked her where her life jacket was...unfo rtunate she did not have one and the ranger proceeded to let her go with a warning... after this experience I will not be returning to this park or swim beach...it is unfortunat e that you have employees that feel the need to harass people who are just there trying to enjoy their time with their family... We have been visiting Ridgeway state park for over 10 years. The park is always well maintained and personnel have been friendly and helpful. Because it is so popular, if you are camping, reservatio...ns are advised. See More

Absolutely beautiful place. Gorgeous views. I do have several complaints about the staff that work the front gate. Very unprofessi onal and rude. The scenery makes it easier to deal with this type of b...ehavior. This does not apply to the camp hosts for our loop, or the staff at the boat launch/ inspection. Doubt we will ever stay here again. Beautiful part of Colorado at the base of the San Juan's. Plenty to do for days with your family or just some quiet time. Bring your boat, fishing pole, tent/ trailer, and swimming suit. Plan on visiti...ng the town or Ridgeway for a sense of the old west, with great restaurant s and resorts. See More
