The menu doesn't look like much of anything special, but everything on it is done exceptionally well! Very surprised by how good the food is! My mom is the snottiest person I've ever met when it comes... to food, so I didn't know what to think of her raving about this place, but it truly is delicious. See More

We would like to thank everyone for all the support this summer. The story teller group would also like to thank everyone for their continued support as the audience seems to get larger each week. That's a great thing! Wednesday the model T car club will be stopping by for those who enjoy classic automobiles. This Thursday July 17th story teller Charlotte Ross returns with her repertoire of Appalachian culture and classic tales!!! The chef will also be featuring Cajun specials including gumbo, Po boy sandwiches, and Cajun crab cakes on the weekend! The newly formed NEW RIVER ADVOCATES group will be holding a public meeting at the Riverside on TUESDAY JULY 29TH AT 6PM. Everyone is encouraged to attend and become involved with this fine organization as we all do our part to protect THE NEW RIVER! Have a great week and we will see you soon!

This Thursday evening story teller Tammy Sanabria will be joining us with tales of growing up in the mountains! Tammy is a very proud native Appalachian woman. She tells classic tales with a twist for the young people and young at heart. She also brings toys and other visual props! River conditions are good for a slow and easy ride at the moment for those wishing for a tube or kayak outing. Hope to see you soon!

Notes from the chef!!
We are excited this week as our crops have been planted and the weather forecast seems to be cooperating (unlike last year). We have planted a nice variety and we will be serving these vegetables in the restaurant as they are harvest. Harvest time will also afford our costumers a chance to buy herbs and vegetables for their own home use. We will be updating the status of availability as God willing our crops mature! Po Boys Tubes and Kayaks is up and run...ning and river conditions are very good! This year we will be adding a new river access area and shuttle service for those with their own equipment. Stop by the restaurant and pick up one of our new brochures, which provide most of the information you need to know!! Chef Will will also be featuring an expanded specials program that will be starting this week. Hope to see you soon!!

This week at the Riverside Restaurant!
Thursday June 19th,2014 our weekly story telling continues featuring Charlotte Ross! This will take place on our upstairs stage from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Doctor Ross is a ninth generation Appalachian mountaineer from a family that loved words and pranks. In her many years as an Appalachian folklorist, she traveled the mountains taking notes on regional stories. When she had 3,000 stories researched, she began crafting them into original t...ales. The people, places, and most of the events are real; the stories are re imagined from folklore, oral history and tradition. To quote Doctor Ross "I read somewhere that the task of a bard was to define a place and a people, to record history, to transmit cultural values and to entertain using only the human voice and memory. I guess I was meant to be a bard." See you on Thursday night!!

Thursday June 12th, 2014 we will be featuring local story telling legend Orville Hicks! This will take place on our upstairs stage from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Mr. Hicks is a native of Beech Mountain, NC, and comes from along line of storytellers. Orville is possibly the last to carry on his family folk tradition. He is a nationally known story teller, and has told at the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival, on the National Mall and everywhere in... between. He is committed to keeping storytelling alive and is known for "The Jack Tales", and for telling tales about mountain culture. Orville is truly a cultural treasure. On Saturday June 14th, 2014, we will be hosting the black and blue bike race! Our restaurant will be open that day with normal operating hours. Po Boys Tubes and Kayaks is up and running at full speed with river conditions and weather forecast both excellent for the entire weekend!! We will be posting the schedule for all the story tellers as that information is available to us!
