On August 25, 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Park Service Organic Act. The purpose of the National Park Service is "to conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and the wild life therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations." On this, the National Park Service's 101st birthday, Rock Creek Park wants to know... What are your favorite things to do, places to go, or animals to see in the park? Comment below (or post a picture!), and let's see if we can get to 101 different things that make Rock Creek Park awesome! The time limit is 11:59 p.m. on Sunday. As daylight wanes, it is starting to look like a beautiful winter wonderland at Rock Creek Park!

It’s hard to believe that temperatures were in the 60s and 70s over the past two days.

Peirce Mill is closed today. Our staff has been hit hard during this cold and flu season.

However, you can walk around the outside of the mill and barn. Look for outdoor exhibits for info.

The Nature Center is open—5200 Glover Road, NW—for additional information, exhibits, ranger-led planetarium programs, Junior Ranger activity booklets for kids, bookstore, & more.

Wow our volunteers are amazing. Thanks for coming together in service to (and with) our community in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

PS: Our afternoon even...ts are just getting started so you can still join in! This morning our Peirce Mill crew cleared more than 400 pounds of litter from Rock Creek, with the help of coffee from @eatatsilver and in partnership with @blueplanetdc.
