Put Your Clothes On
I’m going to be transparent here – I have had a couple of rough days. I haven’t slept, I haven’t felt well – you know, THOSE days. SO of course, this morning I would up just before 7 when I’m supposed to be leaving the house. Not being a morning person, I need to wake up gently and ease in to my day. I need quiet until after my shower and then only minimal conversation. I know, I’m just that rough in the AM. Waking up and realizing that you have overs...
II Timothy 3:15-17
There’s nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.
Reading Ephesians chapter 11, I am always in awe that not only did the author (Paul) talk about faith, but he proceeded to give examples of people of great faith. He starts it out like this in verses 1-2;
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for....
Ephesians 5:21-33 – The Message
Out of respect for Christ, be courteously reverent to one another.
Wives, understand and support your husbands in ways that show your support for Christ. The husband provides leadership to his wife the way Christ does to his church, not by domineering but by cherishing. So just as the church submits to Christ as he exercises such leadership, wives should likewise submit to their husbands.
What Happens When God Answers Prayer?
A few weeks ago I spoke on Wednesday night in our women’s discipleship class. When preparing, I asked God for direction and I heard, “Speak on what happens when God answers prayer.” Now this was the same time frame in which my dad had a stroke, then he got bronchitis, Nathan lost his job, I broke my tooth (will be a nice piece of my retirement money!) and both of my grandbabies got sick. While I am very familiar with His answering praye...
The Vault of Your Heart
This flu season has proven to be one of the most challenging in the last many years. Not only are people getting sick in catastrophic numbers, but they are getting this flu more than once! I know people who are on their second round. Schools are closing with 40% of their students being out sick. Ministries are seeing decreases. You can’t get in to a doctor unless you are dying. Emergency rooms are overloaded. Hospitals understaffed with their emplo...
Catch Your Breath
Psalm 23 – The Message
1-3 GOD, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing. You have bedded me down in lush meadows,
you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word, you let me catch my breath...
Psalm 119:105 “Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
We are talking about seeking God first and all that it entails. To seek God first means to be in continuous communication with Him, not just when we have a litany of things we need Him to do. I know that communication with those dearest to me is something I crave. I can’t wait to hear about what my grandkids have done or said. I love to hear the funny stories Ed has about what happen...s at Home Depot! Communicating with them is life to me. I love hearing from my son who lives in Minneapolis, to know what’s happening in his life and how we can be praying for him. Communication is a form of seeking.
Another form of seeking God is through His Word. The Bible is a manual for this Christian life we live, yet often we try to fix ourselves without opening the book. We want to know God’s will and we want to know the WHOLE picture, but the verse I have referenced says that His Word is a lamp to our feet. Now in this day and age, a lamp can light a parking lot, or a room, but in Bible times the lamps were smaller and basically only illuminated the next step in front for you. There is a spiritual premise there! God lights each step as we walk so we won’t get ahead of Him, or lag behind. Once the lamp has moved, the place behind is no longer lit up.
In our daily walk with the Lord, we must seek Him for today’s direction. I remember one time in my life when difficulty was pressing in, and Nathan’s pastor spoke a word to me and it was, “In the past, God has asked to take a step of faith, but during this time, He is leading you step by step. Just walk with Him.” That word was profound to me and it was during that time that I began to understand the lamp unto my feet. Too much illumination could cause us to run ahead – to take things into our own hands – all the while thinking we are doing exactly what He wants us to do, but the reality is that the Bible says in Lamentations 3:22-24 in the Message “God’s loyal love couldn’t have run out, his merciful love couldn’t have dried up. They are created NEW EVERY MORNING. How great is your faithfulness!”
If His love and mercies are created new every morning, the importance of us seeking Him is all the greater. TODAY He created new mercies for me and for you! Think about that? Follow His lead daily with the illumination for that day. Wait on Him for new mercies every morning. See what God has for you today, and walk in it! Then seek Him again tomorrow! Let His light, light your path!
Show Me Your Glory
In chapter 33 of Exodus (one of my favorite books of the Bible!!) we find Moses and those crazy Israelites who have once again, forgotten the incredible provisions that God had made for them. Forgotten how He had delivered them through trials, made provision for them, and yet they were whining. (Sound familiar?? ) In verse 5, God calls them a stiff-necked people and is seriously annoyed with them, to the point of saying, I just may come in to your midst a...
Turn the tide
GOD Is my strength, he’s also my song, and now he’s my salvation. Hear the shouts, hear the triumph songs in the camp of the saved? “The hand of GOD has turned the tide! The hand of GOD is raised in victory! The hand of GOD has turned the tide!”
How many times do we really think about the fact that God is our strength, our song and our salvation? When we go through difficulties, doesn’t it make sense to focus on the fact that HE is our strength? I have failed desperately at this. When the walls fall, the finances fail, the family issues are increasing, the job is stressful; I get overwhelmed.
By nature, I am an over-thinker. I am an organizer, a planner, a person who writes out my grocery list according to the layout of the supermarket. I adore lists and still can’t give up my Daytimer. Can’t and won’t. I know….I’m officially old and therapy may be needed. I have gotten better as I have aged, but when I was younger, I could not handle anything that happened unplanned, unannounced. I was a pro at mult-tasking and thrived when I was so busy I couldn’t sleep at night. I hated surprise parties. HATED. THEM. I didn’t even vacation well because it messed up my routine. So naturally when I am in those places of craziness and no control, I over think. I try to make things happen in my own strength. I try to force the issue and what it does is wear me out. During these events in my life, I forget about how incredible God’s strength is, how amazing is His salvation and how lovely is His song that He sings over me.
Whatever is happening in life, take a moment. Step back and remember this. Right now, the Creator of the universe is singing over you. YOUR name is written on the palm of His hand. That’s how much He adores you, right now, right where you are, in the condition you are in, HE. LOVES. YOU. In the mess, when we wear ourselves down to the point of exhaustion and cry out I GIVE UP, He says, “My daughter (son) that’s what I’ve been waiting for. Let me carry you now.” What a picture. Daddy God, lifts you into His arms, holds you securely, sings you a song, and give you strength where you are weak, bringing strength and peace and calm. What a picture!
Today is your time. Step back. Engage with your good, good Father, and be swept away in His adoration for you! Just watch Him turn that tide!
"The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save, he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love;he will exult over you with loud singing." Zephaniah 3:17 ♥️♥️
I’m all in
Luke 9:23 Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.
This verse has so much meaning to it, and often we don’t consider all of the aspects. See one of the things we humans don’t like is to surrender. We want to fight to the end. We don’t like to go without (after all, isn’t attaining what we spend most of our days doing….?) or to feel like we are being slighted in any wa...
Fight Big, Believe Big
At the beginning of each New Year, many churches enter a time of fasting and corporate prayer. Normally there is a common area of prayer that is communally prayed for to see spiritual breakthrough. Have you ever asked why fasting and prayer are so important?
A breakthrough is used as a military term. When one army is able to weaken an enemy, and the army is able to capture its enemy, that is a breakthrough. Now, in a military breakthrough, it is ex...
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and are entering this New Year with excitement and anticipation about what the Lord will do in and through us this year!
I love this time of year. It is fresh. It is new. Just coming back from Wisconsin, this time of year reminds me of freshly fallen snow – it hasn’t been tainted yet. It sparkles when the light hits it. It covers the brown and dead ground with beauty. Its purpose is to give drink to the ground beneath in pr...
Your Fruit Is Showing
This is the time of year when many Christians make a resolution to spend “quiet time” with God. That meaning more Bible reading, more prayer, maybe even more church attendance. While this is a good thing, this is like using Jesus and then setting Him on your nightstand and ignoring Him the rest of the day. While well intentioned, this is a long way from the on-going walking in the Spirit, abiding, pressing in, praying and worship that we see in Scriptu...
The Year of the Lord’s Favor
Today and tomorrow will be my last postings until Jan 8. We are some time to get away and refresh, because we sure do need it, so before I start, let me say MERRY CHRISTMAS and get ready for an amazing New Year!!
Over the past few weeks I have felt something swelling up in my spirit. I truly believe that we are on the cusp of something in the spirit realm – something that we have not seen to this point – something that God is orchestrating. I h...
THE UNDIVIDED WORSHIPPER
One of the greatest challenges we face as worshippers is keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus – simple to define by not easy in practice. Our hearts are tugged in so many directions and around every corner are new distractions, fighting for our attention. There are so many things that could deflect our time and worship away from loving God. Just today, I felt myself slipping into a funk of overwhelm. I drove to work with worship music on and singing and...
