As Christians, our duty is to help those in need. As Christian citizens, our duty is to abide by and to uphold the law. We can aid illegal immigrants in finding work, decent housing, and fight against their exploitation. We can also have expectations for the proper enforcement of immigration laws. These ideas are not inconsistent.
There is a strong distinction between life in the flesh and the religious life. Christians must be loyal to the city of God, that is for certain. Yet Christians must also not shirk from participating in public life. We must participate in civic discourse and in politics, no matter how far we advance in the Christian life.
Marriage is living for another, rather than for oneself. It’s a peace treaty between the sexes and a bond that transcends the weakness of our flesh, the fickleness of our passions, and the fragility of our egos.
Join us for “The Good of Marriage,” an intellectual retreat that will be held at Baylor University from May 19 to May 21.
