We are happy to present Xerxes Whitney as part of our speaker series. He will be talking to the students from 9:20-10:30 in the gym this morning. All are welcome!

Xerxes Whitney is a very unique individual. He has distinguished himself in many arenas, including as an athlete, a poet, a teacher, a coach, and a speaker. Being given the name Xerxes (zurk-seez) created a huge challenge from the start, as he was born with cerebral palsy, which affects muscle coordination. The acco...mpanying speech impediment meant that as a child, he couldn’t introduce himself without a mighty struggle, and he didn’t walk until he was three years old.

Xerxes has transformed these apparent weaknesses into great strengths and he will share his story with the SELS Community on May 18 at 9:20am. Xerxes has embraced his challenges and spiritedly encourages others to do so as well. He has a unique attitude which he applies to turning his ordeals into great opportunities. Please join us for what is sure to be an inspiring morning.

In the latest "Principal's Corner" (published by Truckee Sun), Mr. Manahan describes the pillars of each expedition and examples from several Crews.

"We are proud of providing students with opportunities to grow academically and personally. Making learning engaging and relevant is an important part of our success, and expeditions have been an excellent curricular structure in facilitating this process." Learn more:

Monday was kicked off with themed door decorations and delicious brunch bites, hosted by the SELS Board. And today our Staff was "Pampered Like Stars" with massage treatments and a lovely office Tea Bar!

Wednesday is "You Have Fans!" - student Fan Mail will be delivered, and we encourage parents to write notes of appreciation too! Or have your child draw a special picture, bring flowers or a small treat. This is the ideal day to show your teacher and support staff what a FAN you are!
