A hundred thousand men and women were followed for up to 20 years. Three glasses a day was associated with nearly twice the risk of premature death, and they had significantly more bone and hip fractures.

Yet, instead of conducting a thorough autopsy of their demise - sinking into minority status in Congress and across the country - the #Democrats apparently think they can whistle past their political graveyard by blaming their defeat on Putin and by building a movement based on attacking #Trump's erratic and offensive behavior, very similar to the failed strategy that #Clinton employed last fall.
Not only does this negative strategy threaten again to backfire but - by feeding into a new and dangerous Cold War - it risks tying the Democrats to conflict and militarism and letting the Trump Republicans position themselves as the alternatives to endless and escalating wars.
The rebellions and resistance of the subject peoples of empire were so extensive that we may eventually come to consider that #Britain's imperial experience bears comparison with the exploits of Genghis Khan or Attila the Hun rather than with those of Alexander the Great.
The rulers of the #empire may one day be perceived to rank with the dictators of the 20th century as the authors of crimes against humanity.

Official history records that the last 100 years of human history were dominated by 2 world wars, fought between the proponents of freedom and democracy and the forces of slavery and fascism; a 'Cold War' waged by the 'West' against Communist China and the Soviet Union; and more recently, a potentially 'unending' war against the forces of 'Islamic fundamentalism', again waged by the 'West'.
That, at least, is the official narrative.
The alleged '#humanitarian' or otherwise ...benevolent intentions of the 'West' in these campaigns appears to have given rise, at least in the latter part of the 20th century, to an entrenched culture of progressivism in many 'Western' nations that bolstered the cause of 'humanitarian' military interventions in other countries by Western military forces. This 'progressivism' has, however, produced significant social stressors in Western nations, and provoked a backlash from conservative or 'traditionalist' segments of the population that found their voice, finally, in the unexpected election of Donald #Trump as #US President.

According to the Saudi Arabian foreign minister, U.S. and U.K. officials sit in the command and control center to coordinate air strikes on Yemen. They have access to lists of targets. The #Obama administration provided airborne fuel tankers and thousands of advanced munitions.
